Re: Ipod + Car care
Hopefully the info below helps you a bit. Congrats on the car by the way!
Got my '08 Avant last week , sweet car, really nice to drive. I have a couple of questions that I'm sure have been answered befor but I can't find a straight answer:
1) Ipod - This car came with the Symphony audio, no nav and it does not have the Ipod Audio Package. I've been reading a lot of forums, sites etc. and I'm really dissapointed that a car of this price does not have a seamless integration with an mp3 player, although I know the answer I'll ask. Is there an "easy" way to plug my ipod through the 3.5mm headphone with adapter or having to take out the radio?
Dice Electronics makes an Ipod integration system that allows you to hook your ipod up to your stereo and control it through the headunit and steering wheel controls. I have it in my 2006 A4 and I love it.
2) Car care - Hpefully this will be my Audi for a loooong time so to take really good care what are your opinion regarding waxes, leather cleaning/conditioners and plastic protectant, I would be looking for something not as shinny as Armor All. And what is your preffered product for outside plastic, front grill, mud flaps, tires, etc.
I used the following products:
- Meguairs Gold Class Soap
- Sheepskin Wash Mitt
- Grit Gaurd Bucket
- Car Brite White Lightning Wheel Cleaner (commercial cleaner)
- Poorboys All Purpose Cleaner
- Dehydrator Drying Towel
- Stoner's Window Cleaner
For Detailing I use the following:
- Optimum Hyper Compound Swirl remover
- Optimum Polish
- Poorboys EX-P Sealant
- tons of microfibre towels
- Porter Cable 7424 Orbital Polisher Of course!
3) 3M - The car has 3M on the hood and some other places but not in the front fascia and I think I need to put it before getting more bugs and tar or worse a chip or dent. Any recommendations to get it in Calgary?
I live in Toronto so I wouldn't be able to help you here!
Thanks for your comments. Greatly Appreciated
Bruno
p.s later I'll post a better pic

Steering Angle Sensor faulty
Hey Guys just wondering if the steering angle sensor is built in the clockspring... 2004 a4 quattro, 6 speed turbo.
My esp light is on solid, and sometimes abs comes on and off....(probably triggered by the esp)
fault codes im getting are:
sensor steering angle (g85) supply voltage terminal 30 35 00 01826
and it also says faulty....
I took apart the steering wheel completely, got to the clockspring and cleaned it up, put everything back together and still no go. I tried to readjust the steering using VAGCOM and logging in with 40168, but again no go. Keeps bringing up error.
My question is the steering angle sensor part of the clockspring (behind steering wheel airbag) part # 80E 953 541 E??? The dealer wants 500.00 for that part and I cant find anything else anywhere. Will replacing that part fix my esp after replacing it and recalibrating...
thanks guys

iPhone Dyno - Drivetrain Powerloss?
Check out this sweet new app for the iPhone, it'll give you your vehicles 0-60 time, 1/4 mile time, horsepower, lateral G forces and skid pad.
Dynolicious for iPhone Measures Your Car's Performance - App can measure 0-60 MPH, elapsed time, horsepower, G forces and more - Softpedia
BUT i need to plug in my vehicles weight and power loss due to drive train. I have a 97 A4 Quattro, i have heard that the power loss is around 30% is that correct?
I'll let you guys know how it works!

Looking for info on getting an Audi ...
Hi,
I'm new to this, and looking for some info on purchasing a used Audi. I have searched, but have some specific questions that havent come up.
1. I'm looking at spending 8-ish grand on one, and it seems to be a 2000 or so. Any models I should avoid? A good service history seems to be key, any other stuff I should look out for? Engines to avoid? Bad years? Work other than the timing belt/water pump that really needs to be completed?
2. I bike a lot, but dont want a roof mounted bike rack. Anyone got a hitch that seems to work ok? What did it cost to put in? Can you take the front wheels off and fit 2 bikes into an Avant?
Thanks!
Brett

audi newbie.....need help
I have a 2001 a4 quatt1.8t. Recently it keeps stalling on me. when in gears it runs fine, as soon as i put it in neutral let go of the clutch, the rpm just drops all the way down and the car shuts off.
I'm thinking it might be the idle control valve........
anybody??????
any inputs would be appreciated.
thx

Re: Looking for info on getting an Audi ...
1. 2000-01 are the best years for the b5. For the engine, 2.8l seems to be more reliable since its not turbocharged, more it's drinking a bit more. 1.8t is usually the most popular for the mods you can get a lot more power with chip, exhaust. The weak points are... control arms and I had to change 3/4 wheel bearings. Other than that no problems so far.
2. no idea.
