Happy New Year to you too
And thanks for the response on diagnostic codes.
But could the list be different for a 2005 MkI?

For example: I previously thought that code 49 was Engine Coolant Temp, but the list shows code 51 for ECT. When I put it on 49 I get about 80 degrees C. on code 51 it shows 90 degrees. As a check, I put it on engine RPM (code 28 ) and I get a constant value of 140 regardless of engine speed (or does it show idle speed?)

Anyhow many thanks
Wally

Hey Wally,

The list of codes may vary depending on car options, chassis codes etc. Code 51 seems to be a variant of coolant temp. Does code 27 show your RPM?

wallyr25 01-02-2015 04:47 PM

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!

Thanks: Yes, code 27 shows RPM

The list you posted is obviously a bit different for my TT, for example the engine RPM is code 28 on the list but, as you pointed out, 27 is the correct code for RPM. With code 49 on the value fluctuated between 77 and 82 degrees C, while code 51 shows a steady 40 degrees C. So I think that the 51 might be oil temp and 49 might be coolant temp, even though the list states the 49 is a malfunction counter for the speedo, and 51 is coolant. Any idea on how confirm this?
Thanks again
W

Hi, Thank you for your answer. Happy new year!
No smoke at all at start. Not even at cold start.
I monitorred the oil. After 1000Km MMI shows 60%. (a bit over half).

Back to Climatronic codes: My last post said that code 51 results in a constant reading of 40, I meant to type 90. Anyhow it seems that coolant temp, on code 49, fluctuates between 77 and 82 degrees C. Does this sound low or is it within acceptable range?
Thanks

Intermittent Time Display Problem

2008 A3 2.0T concert radio

There is a setting on the radio to display the time. If turned on the time displays under the radio station number when the radio is on and displays in a large font in the centre of the display if the radio is turned off.

Sometimes the time just won't display or if it displays with the radio station it no longer displays if the radio is then turned off.

Turning the car off then back on solves the issue most, but not all of the time.

After I changed my battery last month the issue is much much less frequent.

Any idea what may cause this?

I went to the dealer while under the certified used warranty but was told that radios are not covered. They would not look up the tech number listed in the thread below unless I booked the car in to have a technician look at it so did not proceed. The car is now off warranty completely.

I am wondering if the issue in this thread is relevant and if so how to proceed.

Hi MotorFabrik,

I have a 2012 A4 and would like to implement a number of VAG-COM code changes. The car has a fairly long extended warranty. Could you comment about whether my making some code changes could invalidate the warranty and if there might be any other issues that could crop up with the dealership (Queensway Audi in Toronto) ? Many thanks !!

Hello,

I am wondering how many cars with engine code CAEB have been sold in Canada between 09-11. I can find the number for US which is approximately 126,000. However no luck for Canada. Any insight on this?
Thanks in advanced!

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!

MotorFabrik,

what a great offer to make!

I have a 2006 A3 with the BPY engine. 120k km, on it. I change the oil and filter about every 10k km with M1 TDT 5W-40. In the past couple weeks I have had two occasions where the car sat for a couple days, started fine, but idled a bit rough, sounded a bit like a diesel when driving, and my low oil pressure light came on. On both occasions I stopped driving right away, turned the car off, restarted and let it idle a couple minutes, at which time the noise abated and oil warning light extinguished. Performance and subsequent starts on those drives was normal.

What would you suggest I do to further diagnose the cause of this? Thanks!

Hi MF. I'm trying to find a cause for why my wife's 2005 A4's warning beeps have stopped working. Please see my post here.

As I said there, maybe I'm not using the correct nomenclature, so I'm not finding an answer in the forum or anywhere else. Can you (at the minimum) tell me if there's a better search term than "warning beeps?" Any other advice would be much appreciated too! Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Shortly after I bought a 2006 2.0T Audi A3, experience a cam adjuster failure (all the bolts popped off while on idle) caused my valves to be damaged.

I am in the process of taking the engine block out and replacing the valves. Can someone recommend what parts I should also replace to keep the longevity of the engine, other than just the bent valves?

What other tips would you recommend for cleaning the engine?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advanced!

Hi guys, i have a question regarding the color codes on are springs...
I'm in the market for a set of Sport springs to put on my wifes A4, her spring codes are front: OJH and rear: OYJ i found a set of S4 springs that have these codes: front: OJH and rear: OYG
They have the same color codes but the load index is different on the rear set of the S4 (7 instead of 9) What should i expect? Is it going to make the A4 lower on the back (reverse rake) ???
Thank's for your help. Ben

Hello I have a question regarding my A4 Avant. When I accelerate from a stop or at speed my engine /turbo or transmission feels jerky or clunky. Sometimes an outright banging sounds. Also the revs stay high after I accelerate and don't come down and respond normally.
Please advise if you know this problem.

My 2007 a4 has a smell coming through the vents. at first I thought it was the battery which I recently replaced and sears had forgotten to put in the vent tubes but after having the vent tubes installed it still has a smell.
of course the vent tubes only go down 8 inches or so and I wonder if the smell is still coming from there?
It does not smell like oil or rubber. dealer said it might be the alternator which is $750 to replace or a bushing rubbing.
thanks in advance for any help.

Hello! I hope I am doing this correctly. OMG I purchased this beautiful "looking" 2002-A4 Sedan and it is so needy (like me). I have a great mechanic who I believe is financially set for life having the knowledge and experience repairing these fragile beauties! K, enough. my issue is he isn't available till Monday and I have needed to fill the antifreeze coolant.... container, I know its where the fluid goes cause its pinkish and says G12. I mixed it 50/50 with distilled water. I keep having to put more antifreeze fluid in the reservoir? I do not notice it leaking nor odor? Its the weekend and am hesitant to drive, even just around town. Can you please advise when possible. even though I will seek my mechanic ASAP, id be grateful for any suggestions or advice, this might be the start of a conversation start up at your next story telling of how you have a new one with big issues! Thank you for your patience, seemenita.

cricket noise when gering down

Audi Q5, 2.0 TFSI 2011

Now Spring has come I opened the right driver window and I am noticing
a strange cricket noise like ''crrrrrr...' (as you were scratching a spring )
when the car gears down from 4t's gear or so to a stop. I think also
I can hear it when the car gears up, but is less noticeable.

The noise is consistent, and comes from front underneath the car.
Is this something I should worry about or not.
Thank you.

Hi I just purchased a 2015 Audi A3 Cabriolet. I love this car and the technology in it is amazing - Adaptive Cruise Control, Audi Pre-sense, 2.0 TDI engine, Blind Spot warning, etc etc but for some reason Audi cant get the new MMI Navigation and Audio system to work with Siri??? I don't understand that at all! It doesn't work via Bluetooth or via the MMI adapter cable - can you explain why???

Thank you,

Hello MF

My 98 Audi A6 makes a ticking noise from Camshaft tensioner on drivers side until car warms up to normal operating temp than goes away. I had to take out tensioner twice to get the timing right. Did I maybe knock something loose or is there a seal in the tensioner that may need to be replaced now?

Hi I am looking to purchase a pre owned Audi TT Convertible in the fall 2015. Perhaps could you tell me should I try and buy it privately? or through the dealer ? I have seen so many Audi TT's down in the states but not sure of the implications of driving it accross the boarder back into Canada.

Are they very expensive to maintain? how much can I expect to pay for an oil change for example ?

I am looking for a the TT base model 2011, doesn't need to have any special features, I really like to S Line, but not sure if that model is more expensive.

Thank you,
Mary

Hey guys I just bought my first used Audi S4 2004 Quattro with a V8 4.2L. When I'm going slow and turn hard to the right or left I hear a vibration noise. It feels like it's coming from the all wheel drive on the front wheels. Is this normal for Quattro's or should I have it checked. U-joint maybe??

Hi ,

I have a 2010 2.0 A4 6 speed, I bought it used in 2013 with 40k on it. Noticed the oil consumption was high so I checked the web and learned about the "issue".

The dealer (OWASCO) performed the fix and all has been good...... accept now. Sometime between 125K and now (155K) it started consuming more oil.

I am now driving with a spare liter of oil in the car as it drinks about 1L every 1000kms.

I am in the middle of my second consumption test with Audi Mid Town

Since I am over 130kms Audi Canada says I'm on my own regarding the cost.

A couple of questions

1. Was this a permanent fix or just a temporary fix? Good for about 60,000 kms?
2. Will I have to pay or can I get Audi to provide free service to address the problem? I had planned on driving the car to 300km's
3. I heard some people got new engines, how common is this? Apparently they reached out to Audi Germany.

Thanks

Ted

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!

I've got one for you that I haven't had much luck searching online.

The car is a 2006 Audi S4. The problem is my driver's mirror has a mind of its own meaning it doesn't retain the setting once I shut the car off. The next time I star the car and use one of the memory buttons on the door the seat goes to the previous setting but the driver's mirror is pointing down. The passenger mirror retains its settings with no issues.

Is the problem the driver's side mirror motor memory function failing?

Is it the door memory switch failing?

Is it the power seat control modeule on the drivers side?

Or something else?

Thanks, Brian

Hi there, I just picked up a 2005 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro, I live in Montreal and the winters can be a bit cold. Anyways my concern was the adaptive suspension, it's been fixed previously(leak), and now it's on automatic, should I change the setting to avoid any future damage?? My MMI/Sound and Visual would work intermittently when my A6 was cold (ever since I have owned the car in 2009). Once it warmed up it would work fine. Two days ago it was cutting in and out, and now the complete system went blank when I was driving. There is no power to the MII or the buttons on the console. I tried the reset by pushing the middle large button and the settings button at the same time but the screen is blank. Is there a resistor or fuse somewhere in the system that I can check? It appears to be a total loss of power which happened while I was driving in normal conditions.
