Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Hello, I have an 02 Audi A4 Quattro, withe 201k on it, 1.8t. I have been doing work to the body and mechanical components, I changed the timing belt, adjuster and water pump, J-plug. I had the anti freeze drained and refilled when water pump was replaced, but had to drain it again to replace J-plug when it started leaking. With that said I have not driven the car on the road yet but have had the engine warmed up to normal operating temp. When at idle there seems to be little or no heat coming from defroster or heat vents until you speed up the engine, after the RPM is raised even just a little there is plenty of heat. I checked the coolant level and did add a little but I don't think it was down far enough to effect the heat. Do you have any suggestions as what might be the cause , could there be air in the system somewhere, i bled the system as per instructions or what is your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance, Norman.

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Hi:
I own a 2011 A4 Quarto. I stored the car in my garage for the winter. When starting up this spring the battery was low so I serviced the battery by adding deionized water to all 6 cells which were about half full. No wires or cables were removed from the battery during the servicing. I then hooked up the battery tender to charge the battery. After a few minutes I NOTICED I had SOMEHOW reversed the polarity on the charger (positive to negative etc!!! This is the situation now - 1. No electrical systems are functional. 2. on the instrument cluster the Traction Control, FPC, Seat Belts, ABS, and E brake lights are permanently on. Questions - 1. Have I caused damage to the electrical system 2. Have I caused fuses to blow? 3. Is there a reset procedure I have to follow to reactivate the system? 4. Or is a flat bed CRA ride to the Audi Shop and an expensive repair in the cards? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. Ken |
Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
If you have not done so , replace the battery ,the battery cables will be disconnected from the battery during this process and the system should reset itself. If not some testing will be required.

Hi, I have a 2004 A6. the passenger rear window drops slightly on the right(rear side). Is this a regulator issue or are there guides or clips that need replaced. I can get the window up if i make sure i have the window positioned right while holding it up so it doesnt slip. it only slips slightly, but its enough to bind the window. any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Anyone have experience with the LED backlighting fading out? I'm not referring to the common pixel issues with the centre display. One of my A4's, a 2000 Quattro with only 143k, has the type 3 instrument cluster. Several of the LED's backlighting the tachometer and some lower gauges are not lighting up. Tips are most welcome!

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
I bought a supposed clean carfax 2011 Q5 a year ago, it had 143,500 miles, was clean inside but has a couple character marks around the front grille and body. Sadly, this thing guzzles oil like never seen before. 1 qt for every 235-250 miles!! No smoking out the tail pipes or leaks from anywhere have been noticed or found. Today the car as at the Boise Audi dealer having the airbag recall completed, but since the car somehow has guzzled it's way to 145K mi, Audi won't touch the oil guzzling at their expense, which sucks! Do new used car owners have any recourse at all? I'm considering selling the car, but then it will become the problem of the next owner, and that doesn't sit well with me. I'm definitely NOT paying the Audi dealer to fix a problem that should have never slipped through the oily cracks, especially when it's guzzling at 1 qt per 250miles. Any advice?

Hey thanks for this! I have a 2009 A4 S Line Convertible. AC is not working. Mechanic tested the compressor and replaced the Pressure Switch. Still not working. I had the brakes done and the next day the AC, trunk release on the door and the convertible top would not work. Coincidence? Mechanic got the trunk and convertible top working but not AC. All fuses were checked and good. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi. New to the forum though I've referred to it numerous times to help with the many issues I've had with my 2013 Audi Q5 2.0T Premium Plus.
As expected, the engine has tapped out (at just over 155,000 km) - internal damage to cylinder walls, recommended new long block at the cost of $16k+tax. I say "as expected" because of long-time oil consumption issues (refill 1L for every 600km) and other common problems (e.g. timing chain, and more!) that began at 70,000km. I'd like to get another 2-3 years out of this vehicle and so, I'm looking to put in a used engine that doesn't have inherent design flaws. To do this, I need: (1) to stay away from engines that are known to have inherent issues related to oil consumption and potential engine damage; and so, I would like to know the engine codes and associated production year for these models; AND/OR (2) Engine codes of Q5 2.0T engines produced in 2018 and 2019 that are suitable for my 2013 Q5 (assuming that all those prior to 2018 still have known flaws that will lead to engine failure). Hoping you can help! |

Hi. New Audi owner. Just purchased a 2017 Audi A4 Technik. Looking to purchase winter wheels. What can I fit on my vehicle? I’d like all the sensors to continue to work. The OEM wheels are super expensive and clearly priced to gouge. Vehicle is currently equipped with 18” 5 spoke OEM wheels.

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Hi, i bought an A3 3.2 2006. The AWD is not working. It doesn't kicks in on the snow even, just the front wheels are rotating/slipping. The ESP switch doesn't work and ABS system is not responding. When I turn on the ignition switch, the esp light doesn't lights up too. I suspect maybe the AWD is not working because a faulty ABS module. How do i proceed? I am just lost. Please help.

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Hi!
First of all thank you for doing this! Amazing!! I'm a new member here and not very savvy so i'm sorry if the explanation is not good. I have an Audi A4 Quattro S Line - 2017 with 19" wheels but last summer i hit a rock and one of the wheels is damaged and there's no reparation possible. So i started looking for the same wheel (an used one because at Audi they cost $1200(!!!)/each) and i only found 2 that are the same model, but the offset is not the same as the originals (so i'm told): one has ET35mm and the other one ET45mm. I guess the original offset is 40mm. The guy in the shop says i won't see or feel any difference but i'm not so sure, maybe he just wants to sell me the wheel. He suggested the ET45 so there's no chance that the wheel or tire rub the suspension or brakes. What do you think? Should i keep looking? Use a spacer on the other wheel in the same suspension arm (rear) to make it the same offset? Thank you so much!!! I've attached the pic of the wheel maybe someone https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...39916bf857.jpg here as a spare one! |
Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Hi PedroDom,
Just read the offset off of your existing rim and get the same offset. The guy in the shop IS just trying to sell you what he's got and it's my opinion that he doesn't know what he's talking about. If you want to not rub the suspension you go with the 35 offset as that pushes it out further. That said, I wouldn't mix offsets because it IS noticeable - maybe not to you, but it is to me, and for someone to say that it can't be felt is BS. In either case, I'm fairly sure that you will see a difference. Also, there wouldn't be any chance of hitting the brakes regardless of the offset, so he really has no idea what he's saying. More importantly, if it's not the same offset then it's most likely an aftermarket wheel altogether. If it was an original (used) rim, it would be in the right offset. Maybe I misunderstood what you were looking for but I thought it was a used OE rim. If you're considering aftermarket replicas then yes, you have to find the correct offset. Mixing offsets is like duct taping your bumper on, technically it works, but does it tho? |
