This appears to me to be way to low. A local garage said he may be able to re-program this in order to have it cut out later. Is this possible? My wife and I are both 70 years of age and since we wont be hot-rodding the car I would prefer to complete delete the rev limiter. Is this possible? Otherwise, what could be the cause of the low rev limiter? Thank you.

Hi Beezer,

A couple of questions. Does the cut off happen in every gear or just certain ones? The stock rev limit is 6600 +/-100 so there is something else going on here.

When it does hit the limit, do the needles on the dash almost seem as if they are resetting themselves? Early TTs had cluster problems where this very exact issue would occur.

Has the garage scanned the car for any codes?

When i come to a stop and then take off again, my car "stalls" or looses power like its shutting off and then suddenly kicks in and runs fine until I stop and go again. This only happens after I have been driving around for a few with the AC on. The check engine light comes on temporarily and then shuts off. I keep taking it in but because there is no check engine light on they are unable to get a hard code. I'm loosing it here!

Hey audidahottie,

When a CEL trips, the code is stored in memory. A VAGCOM scan should pull that code up...it would help in figuring out whats going on.

However, the almost stall points to a PCV or breather issue. . Have you had the intake system smoke tested at all? The 2.0T model A3s are known for breather/intake issues and actually have a 10yr/192KM service campaign...in Canada anyways.

Hey madgey2,

A couple of questions to help us figure out whats going on. Do you have access to VAGCOM for an output test on the compressor? You mentioned you had it charged...was it because of a leak or a replacement of a HVAC component (condensor/compressor etc)? Do the fans work?

If you would like, give us a shout and we can take a look...no charge or obligation.

Hey Slyman,

Around 115-120K KM is our recommended interval. However, condition of the belt is also important...if it is ripped/frayed/damaged for any reason...replacement ASAP is strongly urged.

I am at 119K km and I have checked the belt this weekend with my father and and our opinion, the belt is in good shape, no sign of use, no crack, thooths are good, we still can see the written information on it and the edge of it is good also, no sign of detoriation.

I've bought the car at 89K (from A dealer here but car come from US) at that point of seeing the belt, I suspect the belt was already changed. For this year, I will let it in the car but I will replace in next spring. I will probably have 130K at that time.

And big thanks for your information.

Thanks for your reply MF. I bought the car and before I did, the dealer had a computerized diagnostic done on it. Turns out it was a camshaft sensor, so they tell me. In any case, it now runs great. Love the car!

Hey Mike.V,

By any chance do you have access to VAGCOM? You can run an output test on the flaps to see whether they are operating within spec. That would be the first step in determining what the issue may be.

Hi
I purchase a 2000 quatra A6
check engine light was not on
About a week after I got it home it came on. Had it checked on computer and it stated random multiple cylinder misfire detected.
Engine light has been reset but continues to come back on as does the air bag light
which I also reset but comes back on sometimes.
Complete tune up included: plugs, injector cleaning,

codes are: 301-303

Car is running pretty good. Cannot tell if its missing.
Thanks

Hi, I'm Back. Good battery and Alt. tests ok. Have swapped coilpacks, plugs, injectors and still get a misfire cylinder 1 and or 2 and random misfire codes. Is it possible that the wiring is bad somewhere? Also I've heard that the ECM/ECU go bad on these. Could that cause it to run smooth after about 30-60 seconds only to run rough once give it gas and or put under load? I can see the case is hard to open (somewhere I saw to open it with a dremel cutting slots for a flat head screw driver into the bolts holding the computer in place?). I notice the # on the case is 8e0907411 and I pryed a little on the case to see the computer # is 8e0909518 bc. Also the wiring harness is 8e1971074. When I search EBAY for used parts I see the ECM/ECU for sale. I was wondering about the letters following the harness tho. I can find ending in 1074 however all for sale have letters after the #'s and mine doesn't. Does this matter? Will the harness be compatible? Thanks and no rush. I've got other means of transportation in the mean time just trying to get her back on the road. Thanks Jesse

Hey larryallenmark,

What motor is your A6? Do you have access to VAGCOM to gather more specific data regarding the misfires and airbag light?

I noticed you changed the plugs...but the misfire is on 1 and 3. Can you possibly swap coils and see if the misfire follows?

The ECUs have known to be problematic but before we jump to condemn it...can you do a smoke test to ensure there are no issues with vacuum/air leaks?

Hi,

Hope you are well. I have a 2007 Audi A6. For the last three week, I am facing a problem with my fuel gauge in my cluster. It's wobbling up and down. Even if I drove 200km on it, it shows I have a full tank of gas.

Even after driving 550km, It shows to be half tank with a range of 320/340 km on it. What can be a potential problem and how much do you think it might cost me to fix it?

Also I wanted to know what's a potential cost for changing water pumps on 07' Audi A6?

Thanks.

Hey MF, Just wanted to say thanks. We hadn't got to taking off the valve cover in this thread yet but I know it was coming. So I popped it off and the exhaust cam was shot. 2nd set of lobes completely gone:o. 3rd and 4th set of lobes had 1 lobe at 75% and 1 at about 90%. I got the car for a pretty good deal (1600) with the misfire problem and its fully loaded so I still wound up ok. Cousin is a mechanic and we found a cam set out of a 99 Passat 1.8T at the local junk yard for 65 bucks. Installed and good to go misfires gone and check engine light reset and hasn't been back on since:D. My last question for now would be what would cause the lobe wear like that? Oil seems to be getting up to the cam, could it have just been very poor maintenance before I got it:crazy:?

Thanks again for your help and time,
Jesse

Hi flightmedic,

Hopefully you managed to get the connection back on the box but there isn't much too it either than insert and snap into place. They are a little fragile and with the heat from the motor become brittle but should seat into place without a lot of effort

Hi supple007,

You mentioned it ran out of coolant on the highway...was this due to a leak or blown hose? How much coolant did you have to top off ...was it a substantial amount? Did you drive with no coolant and if so, how long?

Common areas for leaks on the B5 1.8T are around the coolant flange, sometime around the turbo and the thermostat housing.

The concern with the no-start is due to an over-heated condition. Check for oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil...you may have warped the head and have a headgasket issue if the car overheated.

Hi Johntonyo,

You mentioned you were left the A6...did you by chance put a new battery into the car? If so, it will need to be registered and until it does, you will encounter such issues.

Secondly, do you have access to VAGCOM to scan for any immobilizer codes?

Finally, do you know the history of this car in terms of starting/immobilizer issues?

Hi Mazhar,

With respect to the gauge issue, the first step would be to run an output test on the cluster through VAGCOM to ensure the cluster is operating within normal specifications. If the cluster is fine, there is a possibility the fuel level sending unit in the tank is not correctly relaying information.

Check your PM with regards to the water pump...also, we can run the VAGCOM scan on the cluster no charge/obligation.

Hey goldy1003,

Do you have access to VACGOM by any chance? P0089 is a code for fuel pressure performance and there is a good chance it is one of the fuel senors...usually the high side. As for doing it yourself, the sensors reside more or less underneath the intake...if you are handy mechanically, its is not an overly difficult job.

Hey Jesse,

Glad to hear there was some resolution to the whole situation! Its a little odd the exhaust cam got worn like that but it may indicate a plugged oil pickup tube/screen. Was there signs of sludge build up? Since you have to drop the pan to access the tube, it would be a good way to check and clean out any sludge.

Hi Mazhar,

We are located at 750 Oakdale, Unit 22. Phone # is 6474797773. Website is motorfabrik.ca

Unfortunately this weekend is already booked (We are open on Saturday, closed Sunday) but give us a shout and we can schedule you in for the upcoming week.

Is your A6 a V6 or V8? There are two fuel sending units (one left and one right). To determine cost, we would have to determine what the issue is first. To be honest, its not a very common issue at all.
