Hi,
The backup sensors just quit on my new (to me) 2002 A6 2.7T. Any suggestions of where I could look before taking it to a garage? What shop manual would you recommend?

Thanks
Barry

It's obvious you don't know how the system works or you would have posted the controller number and fault codes. If you don't have a scan tool and not ready to remove the bumper cover to replace a possible sensor, I recommend this shop.

Bentley manual for your car. They're great.

Hi, I have a question regarding the clutch on a 2001 A4 2.8 Quattro. At the end of my lease, I decided to buy the car, around April 2005. A couple months later, I had to replace one of my engine seals (long story here, another post maybe) but was also told I should replace the clutch which I did.

I went on to buy an '06 A4, and kept the '01 for my spouse. We end up driving about 3k-5K a year on this car. I recently had it serviced at my Audi dealer to be told the clutch was going and should be replaced (Again???), because when you start rolling, the clutch has friction all the way to the top of the pedal, when it's fully released (not sure if this is clearly explained, sorry).

Is that the case?
Otherwise, how can I tell whether the clutch is going? I wouldn't want to wait until I get stranded.
Any repair shop recommendation in the GTA (other than an Audi dealer)?

Seems wierd that you would need to replace the clutch so soon, unless you were really riding the clutch over the last 5 years. The friction point for the 2.8 clutches always seemed very high compared to other cars I used to drive.

A good test would be to put the car into 4th or 5th gear at 40-50 km/hr and try accelerating hard. If the clutch is slipping, you will see the RPM rise without any increase in speed.

That model is on CAN (Controller Area Network) and lighting is controlled by the central electrics controller via steering wheel electronics. Without a scan tool or knowledge of pulse modulation and LIN, you need a knowledgeable technician to acquire the faults within the system and determine the cause.

In other words, don't start poking a test light into that system.
