The best way to test if the pump is getting power is to use your power locks. You should hear the pump go live. If it doesn't, then you probably have a dead pump. If it does go live, but your door locks don't work, you have a leak in the system. IIRC, most Audi's have the pump located in the right rear of the trunk.

This is true in a literal sense. Yes, it will not cause damage to the engine. BUT, you will cause damage to the O2 Sensors and the Catalytic Converter.

The problem with dealers (besides Chrysler), is that they hold by the motto, "if it ain't broke".
I agree, dealers do live by this... but anyway..

Thanks for the input! You do learn something new everyday!

wow...it's like having a key to the vault of secrets!

hey....does this apply to my oil eating 2007 S4 as well? It just needed a quart added at 20,000 km.

Cheers, and thanks for opening up!

Here's the issue: (Just don't tell anyone I told you)
The late generation 2006 to current models of the 2.0T A3's and A4's have lately been coming back with excessive oil consumption issues.
The common cause for this problem is the Intake Flap Runner being stuck open, which causes oil to leak in and burn off. This is not bad for the enigne, however your oil level will decrease dramatically. Audi has sent out Technical Bulletins regarding this problem. The solution is to replace this part under Warranty if the problem occurs. HOWEVER, this is not a "Recall" or "Campaign Action" as we call it. It's merely a solution to a minor ongoing problem with certain cars. The problem hasn't come up enough for Audi to consider this a Recall. (Like the spoiler addition for downforce on the 1st generation TT's. That was a recall.) That being said, Audi is working on a solution to this problem.
If the problem persists, the next step is to perform an "Oil consumption Test". If your oil light comes on, DO NOT add oil. Go to your dealer and tell them about the problem. If your Flap Runner was already replaced, they'll do one of these tests. It's a two part test. The second part occurs in approx 1,000km after you went in the first time with the complaint. Basiaclly, results are compaired from both tests (before & after) and if any acton is needed further from the test, your Dealer will take the appropriate action.[Result may vary with driving habits and vehilce condition, including tuned vehicles.]
Anyway I hope this sheds some light on your problem, and rest assured Audi is working on it for you!

P.S. Audi's "Oil Min" warning and Dip Sticks are constructed and set for an EARLY NOTIFICATION. Meaning, you've got lots of time before it causes damage to your engine. (UNLESS your oil pan is pissing and you're bone dry, but you'd be able to tell if that was the case now wouldn't you?) Anyway, If your oil light comes on, you still got about 4 - 4.5 litres of oil in your car. If your dip stick is at the MIN you got about 3.5 - 4.0 litres of oil in your car. Don't be afraid. But see your Dealer right way!

I have a A4 (B6) 1.8QT.
Intermitently when I start it in the morning for the first time it gives me four beeps from I could tell to be the "alarm-set" beeper.
There is no errors shown anywhere and the car runs fine.
Any thoughts?

Hmmm,
That's a head scratcher. Typically when you hear any type of beeping, you'll see a warning indicator of some kind on your cluster screen, whether it be a bulb warning light or brake warning light, etc. Some type of warning light will illuminate. If you're saying you're not seeing any errors, then, I wouldn't know where to begin. Have you been to the dealer for it be scanned?

Have been to OWASCO in Whitby, Ontario to the tune of around $8,000 in one year while I still had 6 months of warranty left... was not a good relationship! The trust was not there when they broke things and charged me to get it fixed... and I had the choice to tow the car out of the shop!!!
The car was chipped and they claimed that to be the issue: Chris Tapp proved the dealer to be wrong...

In the end I have a great driving AUDI with a number of small but annoying issues!

Thanks for trying!

Hey, so based on your input, I brought my A3 to the dealer today. After a full day of head scratching, they gave me the car back and told me nothing could be done besides turning up the volume with the radio know or on the steering wheel which I've already cranked up.

When I argued that I was told this was possible, guy told me they even called Audi technical services and nothing could be done...

Is there something you could give me specifically on this so that I can go back to them?

Just a quick update in regards to OIL CONSUMPTION:

As of September 2, 2008 Audi Canada has recognized the abnormal Oil Consumption of certain models.
According to our bulletin that was sent today, there are 3,442 vehicles (model year 2007 Audi A3 & A4 vehicles equipped with 2.0 Turbo engines) affected in Canada. If you have been affected, you should recieve a Recall Letter in a few weeks or so. If you notice abnormal Oil consumption with your 2.0T engine and you have not recieved a letter, please contact your nearest dealer for a diagnosis.
Refer to my previous articles for more information.

I'm looking at buying an Allroad 2.7T in November. I'm may try to get a 2004 or, with some luck an 05.
I've seen some going for $22,000 here in SoCal.
Can you guys help me out with what to look for concerning issues to that model.
I will try to get one with less then 65,000 miles.
What's the most expensive maintenance for the 2.7T model.
Thank you for your time.

Best regards.
