Re: Audi Service Q & A! Help is here!
While MIL is "on" there are no obvious signs of limp mode- the operation of transmission and the performance of the car are unchanged and are smooth!
What is the procedure to:
Check Torque Converter Pressure Valve
Check Valve for Torque Converter Clutch
Check Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch ?
What is the procedure to:

Check Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch ?
2. Use Vag-Com to read the "slip" data (When the TC is locked and slip climbs, it's NFG)
3. Read the label file, the information is there

Re: Audi Service Q & A! Help is here!
It's going to take time, as my laptop with XP is for repairs.
The old one with W2K could not get operational - the error messages are that the interface can not be found. Could be problem with the USB driver, but I have not have time to play with.

Re: Audi Service Q & A! Help is here!
Hi there....thanks for taking the time to help!!
i have a 99 a6 with a few problems......first i would like to program a new remote key but i do not have the procedure or a left front door lock anymore because i capped off the handle (someone tried to break in) i bought a new FOB and tried a few procedures i found on the net....trying to do them through the trunk but with little success....any suggestions....also i was having problems activating my locking system before i capped off the door, just trying to lock the car manually...i think the connectors in the locking assembly are worn out cause it would only unlock not lock....
my abs light and a flashing ebrake light has also been on since i have had the car.....instead of paying the $650 for a new control unit is there a cheaper way to fix it.....i.e refurbish?
thanks for your time much appreciated

Re: Audi Service Q & A! Help is here!
Adaptations are done at the drivers door lock. The central locking system should be interrogated for faults with a Vag tool.
Refurbished ABS units are a good idea. Close to you in the US:

I'm on here every Thurday evening between 5pm and 8pm EST, and I'll logon occasionally outside of then. So, ask away! I'll do the best I can!

"Audi Service Consultants" are nothing but pencil pushers and have absolutely no clue of what they're talking about. This post says it all!

Re: Audi Service Q & A! Help is here!
Not really, not that I'm aware of anyway... Such fault codes like those are electronic, (to my knowledge) and are picked up by our scanner (VAS 5051/5052), so unless you've got one of these, then you're SOL. I know Audi charges a diagnosis fee, that's probobly what you're trying to avoid.
Anyway, the only thing I can think of is to check the fuse with a Volt Meter or something? Other than that, the Dealer is your best bet.
Hope this helps!

As for the mentioned scanners and because you're trained as an adviser, there is something called VCDS AKA Ross-Tech's Vag-Com.
You're way way over your head on this. VCDS is the voltmeter

Re: Audi Service Q & A! Help is here!
It's normal. Well, not really normal, but it's a common problem right now...
Here's the issue: (Just don't tell anyone I told you)
The late generation 2006 to current models of the 2.0T A3's and A4's have lately been coming back with excessive oil consumption issues.
The common cause for this problem is the Intake Flap Runner being stuck open, which causes oil to leak in and burn off. This is not bad for the enigne, however your oil level will decrease dramatically. Audi has sent out Technical Bulletins regarding this problem. The solution is to replace this part under Warranty if the problem occurs. HOWEVER, this is not a "Recall" or "Campaign Action" as we call it. It's merely a solution to a minor ongoing problem with certain cars. The problem hasn't come up enough for Audi to consider this a Recall. (Like the spoiler addition for downforce on the 1st generation TT's. That was a recall.) That being said, Audi is working on a solution to this problem.
If the problem persists, the next step is to perform an "Oil consumption Test". If your oil light comes on, DO NOT add oil. Go to your dealer and tell them about the problem. If your Flap Runner was already replaced, they'll do one of these tests. It's a two part test. The second part occurs in approx 1,000km after you went in the first time with the complaint. Basiaclly, results are compaired from both tests (before & after) and if any acton is needed further from the test, your Dealer will take the appropriate action.[Result may vary with driving habits and vehilce condition, including tuned vehicles.]
Anyway I hope this sheds some light on your problem, and rest assured Audi is working on it for you!
P.S. Audi's "Oil Min" warning and Dip Sticks are constructed and set for an EARLY NOTIFICATION. Meaning, you've got lots of time before it causes damage to your engine. (UNLESS your oil pan is pissing and you're bone dry, but you'd be able to tell if that was the case now wouldn't you?) Anyway, If your oil light comes on, you still got about 4 - 4.5 litres of oil in your car. If your dip stick is at the MIN you got about 3.5 - 4.0 litres of oil in your car. Don't be afraid. But see your Dealer right way!

You sure know how to follow the company line.
1. In North America, we have the poorest quality oil sold to the general public
2. In Europe, that problem in nearly non evident because of oil quality.
3. In North America we have the poorest quality fuel sold to the general public.
4. In Europe, that problem does not exist.
5. FSI engine management systems between North America and Europe and not even close to being the same because of those above noted points.
As for the dip stick MIN values that was posted......check yours today!
Oil quality and adaptation is now the greatest threat to engine longevity. It is the party line that oils should be replaced as per guide. That is far from the truth and the most serious damage starts at the dealer with extended oil service intervals.
The second is the quick lube with low or non existent quality oils and the customers perception that a service adviser/manager actually knows something.
1. They don't know anything
2. They follow party lines
3. They can't see past 1 and 2

Re: Audi Service Q & A! Help is here!
I've got one. I promise I searched the forums several ways and couldn't find the answer...
Can anyone tell me how I would remove the outer and inner tail lights from a B7 A4? The inners seem to have panels over them that presumably pop off and reveal the fasteners, but what about the outers? What trim removal is required? I have to imagine its not terribly difficult, but I had a (very) quick look the other day and couldn't see anything obvious. I'm looking to remove my headlights and tails for a mod I'm working on. Headlight removal is listed all over the place because there are common mods like halogen>bi-xenon or even depo projects happening all the time...
Thanks!!

scratch that. found it on audizine, not sure how i missed it!

Re: Audi Service Q & A! Help is here!
checked audi tech service bulletin on audi oil quality standards. Of course lot of the oils not locally available. For example, have used Pennzoil Synthetic in my other vehicles, but don't every recall seeing Pennzoil Synthetic European Formula. Would have thought any good quality synthetic would suffice. Lot of the oils are "European Formula". Any idea what significance of this is.
Also am little surprised Audi would not do recall for this, since there is quite a bit of discussion on this topic - not exactly good press for car of this quality.
Other than that love my A4 Avant - bought it used this spring with ~22k. Sweet to drive!
