Default Oil change: for the DIY'ers or those who want to save $$$

This write up applies to the B6 A4, not sure if it's the same for the other models. Here we go...
I decided to add a bit of Seafoam to the oil (it's supposed to help with potential sludge problems, I don't know if it works or not).

I like to get the car warmed up so the oil flows better and all the contamination is in suspension, also to mix the Seafoam with the oil. Then I jacked up the car on ramps and used jackstands as a precaution.

Here is pretty much all I needed to do the servicing.

I removed the belly pan.

Pic of the oil pan with the plug on the side.

Pic of the oil filter.

I removed the oil cap to allow the oil to flow easily.

I used this strap ratchet attachment to remove the old oil filter.

Pic with the oil filter removed.

I removed the oil plug (19mm).

Now get out of the way and watch the oil flow!!!

I replaced the stock plug with an ECS magnetic plug with copper crush washer. The magnetic plug will help keep metallic contamination down in the oil pan.

I screwed and torqued the new plug (14mm, torqued at 22.13 ft-lbs).

I then put a bit of oil on the new filter's rubber seal.

I took a few seconds to inspect the old oil, see if there was anything strange (ie. indication of coolant in the oil, etc...), everything looked fine.

I then hand-tightened the new filter in place.

Now, time to add the new oil (1.8T oil capacity is 3.5L).

I started the car and made sure I didn't rev the engine until the low oil light shuts off (not to screw the turbo). The low oil light didn't light up at all in my case.

Reset the service interval meter.

I then got off the ramps, brought the car to operating temperature and double checked the oil level to make sure everything was ok.

All done!!! I'm pretty sure I included everything, let me know if you spot any errors in the write up.

How the hell did you torque the drain plug down to exactly 22.13 ft-lbs?

Haha, I didn't, I just gave the value by converting the Nm value to ft-lb. I torqued it at 22 ft-lbs.

.... and now for the DIY'ers part II: Timing Belt Change

Just kidding, I have no write up prepared for this, just a bunch of pictures I took!

That's a good idea, I always do that with my Harley and Buell. It wasn't in the Bentley instructions I followed, that's why I didn't do it with the A4.
