Default new and looking to buy an 01 A4

Hey I'm new to the forum.

I'm from ottawa and looking to get an A4 but not really much to choose from around here so I'm heading into toronto this weekend to look at a few that I found.

The ones im looking at range from 7g-11g I'm probably only looking to spend 9 or 10.

I was just wondering What I should be looking for in the car and if there are any problems I should be aware of before buying. I have heard that the 1.8Ts have a slug build up problem so I was looking at getting the 2.8V6. But again I dont know enouph about the car to really know what I am looking for quite yet.

So if anything could give me any key suggestions on wht to look for when buying one aswell as the milage i should be looking at would be greatly apriciated!

Also if anyone needs anything off of a 94 grand prix 3.4dohc let me know... I'll be parting it out and junking it soon.

Cheers

If you can stretch your budget to ~$14k - the 2002+B6 chassis is a much better car, imho. Don't need to worry about sludging issues as AOA mandated synth oil on all 1.8Ts by then.

Best thing to do is have a Pre-purchase inspection done on any Audi you're looking at. There is a ton of garbage and scammers out there. Last thing you want is to be stuck with a dud or lemon Audi - just in case you haven't heard, Audis can be $$$ to repair if not properly cared for...

My 2 cents. Hope it helps.

(Though I normally despise "used car lots" - Car Enthusiast usually has some decent Audis on hand. Warden/401. Talk to Carlton and tell him Bryan R. sent you )

Thanks for the advice man.

i wish i could get 14k :S I just bought a house so my budget for a nice car is a little lower.

How hard is it to clean out the sludge buildup in the 1.8s?

B5 + timing belt + control arms + wheel bearings = B6 pricing

the only true way to fix the sludging issue - is to replace the motor. Don't let anyone sell you on something that will fix it...

timing belt is due @ 100k-120k kms so check if that has been done.
go quattro you won't regret it.

the 1.8T has more upgrade mods if you want to do this and my 01 A4 1.8T does ask for synthetic oil so sludge shouldn't be a factor.

Default reset whipers travel.

my wipers are stopping half way. Any suggestions how to reset them to the correct position? Just happened after couple of hours of interm. use. By the way is a two week brand new motor.
