Gas mileage

I have a 99.5 A4 1.8TQ

Anyone else getting ridiculously low gas mileage?
I was at the shop, and they checked everything out and my car is "running as it should", but then I get such low kms per tank. I get 350 kms on a full tank on a good week. I've tried changing my driving habits, optimizing tire pressure, etc etc... anything I can think of, but nothing seems to be working.

I'm starting to think 350 kms is normal on this car... any thoughts?

wow, thats terible!!!!

i have a 2004 1.8t 6speed, and im getting about 600 city and 700 hwy.
benifit of the doubt i take it pretty easy but for me to get only 350 i would have to beat the hit out of it none stop...and my cars chipped!

2004 a4 1.8T Triptonic
I get 500-550kms on a full tank (80% highway, 20% city)... lets all share what does everyone get and may be we can benefit from members who are getting good mileage on their cars

Yeah, it'd be interesting to know what everyone else is getting too...

But, I was more looking for ideas on what's wrong with my car. What are common things that cause low gas mileage?

350km per tank is poor: I could do better than that with my 3.0 B6 (heavier car, thirstier engine) while I lived in Vancouver. Have you checked if something is dragging on your car, eg, the brakes?

It's funny you ask that actually, haha... I was just talking to my performance shop mechanic, and asked him about my gas mileage thing, and he asked the same thing... if I had the handbrake up. But sadly, no.. it doesn't seem like it's something as simple as my brakes. I just had brake work done.

Does a worn clutch affect gas mileage by much?

Re: Gas mileage

do you smell a slight aroma of gas? for what ever reason you could be leaking gas. On my old car my O rings around the injectors went and i got half the gas milage.

i didnt smell gas all the time, but it would be as if i just drove by a gas station yet there was no gas station anywhere...

Hmm... I didn't notice any, but wasn't really looking for it either. I'll give my car a sniff in a bit.

I do notice a slight burning smell when I open my hood after driving a bit. I heard it's the small amounts of oil burning, which is normal on turbo cars... ? Dunno how true this is though.

well you definitly will lose oil over time with a turbo car more so then a N/A car. There has to be something for you to get half the Km that i able to get.....

I havea 2006 A4 2.0TQ and I have horrible gas milage too. I get 480 km's when I drive normally. I drive like a maniac most of the time though so I usually end up only going about 440 km's on a tank and sometimes less.
