Re: Rick's SQ5 in Estoril Blue & Garage
Indeed Nicolas is a very passionate young guy...while studying he used to detail the cars at a local Porsche dealer
He learned the trade from a Mexican car enthusiast who moved back to Mexico and he took over some very loyal and dedicated local customers and some who drive over 3hrs to see him
Keep this thread alive with updates and pictures please LOL

I'll keep this thread alive. Today, I'm going over the car with the GTechniq sealant. It's very similar to Opti-Coat. I noticed the dealer prep left a few scratches in the clear coat so I'll have to polish them out before sealing the paint.

Rick, that is a great looking vehicle. We've got a 2014 3.0T on order from Glenmore Audi (last we heard it won't be in until the end of February). I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions.
Which Bridgestone tires did you end up going with? How do you like the traction on the ice/snow around town?
I was also thinking about getting some type of panit protection before we take delivery. I was planning on getting the full hood and bumper, as well as the A pillars, above the windshield, and the mirrors. Mind me asking what you paid for the 3M protection? I was thinking of either going with 3M or another product called XPEL Ultimate.

I ended up going with the Blizzak LM60 and I got them through TireRack. They also had a DMV1 available, but I liked the performance characteristics of the LM60 in the dry road conditions. I've had WS70's as well on another car. Truth be told, I think you can't go wrong with either, but I decided to go with the LM's even though it cost me about $50-60 more per tire, but I wanted to get the best handling performance I could with a winter set up and Bridgestone touts the LM60 as the best for winter performance.
I got the full hood/bumper/grill/mirrors/lower rocker panels (side and rear), and rear lift gate sill done for $1575. A local installer quoted me $1250 for pretty much the identical package, but being a "one car family" means I don't really have the luxury of running around town getting things done, so I bit the bullet and paid the dealer premium. I had the same package on my '09 Q7 and it did a tremendous job of protecting the paint. I'm not familiar with XPEL, but I have never felt the need to look beyond the 3M system.
I hope that helps.

Forgot to answer this in my last post. I am very impressed with the traction/performance around town. The Calgary roads are a mixture of dry, wet, and snow and this thing goes wherever I point it. (And fast!).
I would probably recommend the DMV1 unless you are really into performance. Then, I'd go with the LM60.
