Hi All,
I'm interested in getting the traffic for the Nav, so I called up Sirius USA and they need a US address to setup the subscription. But does it have to be a valid US address?
Warcity: The US address that you have, is there anything that is ever mailed there from Sirius USA?
As well, when setting up the subscription, Sirius recommended calling from a cell in your Audi for live feedback to confirm if you're picking up traffic info. The other neat thing if you want to save $ is knowing that you can opt to pay only for the traffic, rather than traffic PLUS radio (of course this is outlined on their website)

Back when i got it they told me I must have radio and traffic or onl radio. Traffic alone wasn't an option maybe things have changed. I don't mind because I wanted radio. I gave them a real address but you don't have to. Zip code must be real though. They don't mail anything. Or wait till March for Sirius Canada to brin traffic. When they do I will such local.

My 3-month trial with Sirius (Canada) is almost up. Any drivers out there with inside info about traffic being offered by Sirius Canada any time soon? If not I'll settle for SiriusXM (US) traffic (I have a US billing address). Thanks.

Not sure if anyone else has managed to successfully active a US account on a CDN purchased vehicle lately? Sounds like they may have closed the loophole. When i spoke to Sirius Canada about their offering - they guy said that they would have a full traffic service my March 2011.
Spoke with SiriusXM (US) and they were concerned that my audio ESN was identical to my data ESN. My audio (radio) is successfully registered with SiriusXM, but the NavTraffic is still pending. During the updating of the signal, I've (inadvertently) scored an additional 3 months (free) trial radio period. I did give them a US mailing address, canadian phone number, and no billing info yet.

Background NavTraffic info:
Sirius Canada had a merger agreement with XM Canada last fall. The specifics of the merger are pending the shareholders. This matters since Sirius Canada and XM Canada have separate programming, with only XM Canada currently offering traffic updates for NAV ($159.36/yr or $39.76/3 months). XM Canada isn't certain about Audi's system since it's set up with Sirius Canada and has different radio IDs. (8 character ID# vs. 12-digit ESN) Supposedly by the end of the 1st Quarter (hopefully 01-Apr-11) SiriusXM Canada will offer traffic for NAV.
Currently SiriusXM US NavTraffic only pricing is $9.95/Mo (a little bit less expensive than the XM Canada rate). Of course if traffic is finally available with SiriusXM Canada, they may have a great introductory rate.

Hi LMcQueen:

If you look on the first page of this post you'll see that I successfully did this both on my Q5 and my current car. They only use the serial number for data (traffic) and audio (radio). They don't need to know if they car is Canadian or US. They also have no reason to ask where you got the car. I never had any issue activating this service. It really depends on who you get on the phone.

Unless of course: The 2011 models have a unique serial number which some how distinguishes between Canadian and US models.

I've spoken to Sirius Canada and was told traffic is coming in April, you might as well wait.

I am currently paying under 15 dollars USD for XM traffic and radio. It's cheaper there. I can't imagine traffic in Canada costing more than $2.99/m on top of your radio fees.

The data I am getting from US is not very detailed. When Sirius Canada starts the offer I will make the switch.

Thanks D-man, Warcity, and wow! now Moderator,
I agree, I can't imagine why Sirius would care about the US/CDN model info. I was going to get SiriusXM (US) to test my data reception, but my cellphone died out at that moment. Audio seems fine and perhaps my cellphone dying out on me made them feel bad and they gave me a 3 month audio trial. I haven't had a chance to call them back.
The SiriusXM traffic coverage (XM NavTraffic Market Coverage - SiriusXM Radio) suggests flow and incident for only Gardiner. Incident (only) does appear for major hwys. Is that what your NAV has? Your earlier screen shots suggest that there is flow information for the 401. Has reception changed? Am I correct in assuming that "incident" mentions collisions etc, but doesn't tell you how it affects the flow/speed of traffic?
Thanks (again) Warcity.

Over the last months I have most certainly lost quite a bit of traffic detail. I can safely say I am seeing 80% less than what I used to. Incidents mention show you the degradation to the flow of traffic by color coding the roads (green, yellow and red).

I am looking forward to the Canadian Traffic subscription because with this level of details there is no point in having it.
