I installed the same fogs on my car back in Dec 2009. Never had this issue. I wonder why. Mind you, I only turn on the fogs when it's foggy and/or when raining perhaps I should use it for a bit to see if I have this issue, this way I can address it with Jacky before my 1 year warranty runs out.

Good to know there is a resolution though. Now I am working on changing the reverse lights to LED.

 

I don't turn my fogs on that often either but got the problem the few times I did have them on after driving around for 10 minutes or so. Then one night while unlocking my car, I notice one of the fogs didn't turn on and it stayed that way for a week before it came back on for no reason. Then it was on and off randomly. Switched the bulbs and same thing. Took them out and have been too busy to think about them~ Although I'm constantly reminded when I see the regular fogs come on.. =D

What type of light u used for your interiors? (front and side) and license plate. Wat brand name, sides... for each? Do you have item #? I wanna change mine too. btw they lights look great!!

 

I used a 6 SMD LED light bulb. You can use the exact same light bulb type for every light inside the car, under the door, trunk, visor mirrors even the glove box. The only lights that are different are the License Plate as well as the main dome light.

I got the lights from a power seller on ebay. He lives in Toronto, I know about 6 folks on the forum who have got the lights from him (as well as the HID fog kit). If you live in Toronto you can meet up with him get all the lights. He gives life time warranty on the light bulbs.

Changed my interior lights and fogs. Met up with Jacky, recommended by Warcity (thanks ). So here is what was upgraded:

- White LED (22 Total) --> 4 for front map, 8 for doors (two per door), 2 vanity, 4 for rear domes, 3 for trunk, 1 glove. These were a mix of SMDs and LED bulbs. Plus 2 for license plate which i still have to do.

- 6000k HID w/ Canbus ballast...no issues so far although every time the fogs come on there is a sharp humming noise that goes away after about 5 seconds.

- Wanted Red LEDs for the 4 floor lights but those are already LED so Jacky couldn't provide the proper lights.....while I was in there I also noticed the little red lights that illuminate the door handles...always fun to find something I hadn't noticed about the Q5...its so well put together...

Took some pics today with my SLR...night photography with bright lights is a pain...

The white LEDs give off a white/pale blue light...just right IMHO!

 

Real nice. Our cars look like twins. I also picked up the 3000K bulbs for the fog lights the yellow ones I put those on in the winter time. I am glad everything worked out.

The buzzing sound the the HID Ballast warming up it's normal mine has it too. Enjoy.

 

Talked to Jacky last week and he offered to replace my existing ballasts with the canbus ballasts. Met up with him last Thursday and installed them last night, so far so good! Jacky is the best!

 

Good to hear, yes Jacky is great, you're lucky you live close to him area. Next up is changing reverse light to LED. I'll keep you all posted.

 

This is a familiar post to some of you but since lots of new folks have joined, here it is again. More of a pet peeve really.

Q5 and most Audi's use a 35 Watt HID ballast along with a 4300K HID bulb, this is the exact same setup as BMW, Mercedes, Acura, Infinite, Lexus etc.... why OH why is every other HID light out there brighter than the Q5? Does it look brighter or is it really brighter? I know the 4300 K bulb is the brightest temperature I get that but can the ballast be upgraded to a 50/55 watt? Will that make it brighter?

I've done a side by side with BMW and it's definitely not the same. I know they have a proprietary technology in their projection housing but come on.......!

Just wanted to check in with the people that got the CANBUS error-free anti-flickering ballasts to see how they were holding up. The reason I'm asking is because I just bought the same HID fog light kit for my Q5 but the right side sometimes doesn't work when I turn it on. If I turn off the fog lights and then turn it back on, it might turn on. When this happens, it flickers once or twice and then stays on. Has anyone else been experiencing this with the CANBUS ballasts?
