Default Clear Coat

About to pick up my Q5 and was wondering if the Clear Coat is a good product or just another sales tactic?

Thanks,
D-Man

Clear coat? I'm confused. Audi's have one of the best factory paint jobs of any car on the market. The clear coats they come with are amongst the best in the world. I'm curious what a dealer thinks he is going to do to enhance the already fantastic clear coat on these vehicles.

What he said. Well put.
They are just going to spray a clearcoat product of less quality on top of the clear coat already on your vehicle. IMHO... not worth what they're asking.

I am aware of a few nanocoating sealants on the market. I plan on applying GTechniq EXOv2 nano-coating to my SQ5 when I receive it. It's a pretty amazing paint protection coating that has amazing hydrophobic properties. I wonder if this is what they are offering. The stuff comes in very small bottles and requires a few ounces to cover an entire car. You'd be looking at $75 for a 30mL bottle IIRC.

This could be a DIY rather than getting ripped off at the dealer. Do you have a link for this stuff?

It's definitely a DIY job. It's important that the paint be prepped well prior to application of GTechniq since it dries quite hard and any imperfection under the coating will be "preserved" there for the world to see. I plan on doing a through wash, decontamination, clay job, and mild polish prior to its application. Here's a great video produced by AutoObsessed in Edmonton:

They do other videos showing the proper way of caring for your ride. Their online store sells an amazing array of quality detailing products, including a comprehensive line of GTechniq products. I am a hobbyist detailer so I have dealt with them a lot over the years. They know their stuff.
