With the all-new A4 making its debut at last week's Frankfurt Motor Show, it's no completely surprising to see a special edition of the Cabriolet version rear its week in the UK. Though there is no word yet on a replacement for the open-topped version of the A4, buyers understandably worry if they're about to buy a soon to be replaced car.

The excessively titled A4 Cabriolet 2.0 TFSI S line Special Edition should go some way to compensating such buyers with an extensive list of standard equipment. On the outside, the Cabrio is fitted with seven-spoke 18-inch alloys, which complement the S line body kit a treat - it incorporates a polished black grille and new front and rear bumpers. The Special Edition also features Xenon headlamps.

Regular S line interiors feature Pearl Nappa leather sports seats, a sports steering wheel and aluminium inlays to which Audi has added an upgraded 'Symphony' stereo system featuring BOSE speakers. Rear parking sensors are also standard on this model.

The Special Edition is available with either a six-speed manual or the continuously variable transmission Audi calls 'multitronic'. There is little difference between the two in terms of performance and economy, with the latter actually a fraction faster to 62mph from rest. The TFSI engine is the familiar unit used in VW's Golf GTI, putting out 197bhp between 5,100 and 6,000rpm and up to 20lb.ft of torque from just 1,800rpm to 5,000rpm.

It's a willing companion for the A4 Cabrio.

Prices for the Special Edition start at &pouind;29,990 on-the-road and you can order yours now, with first UK deliveries taking place in December.

k&n is the most popular. the main reason people get it is because it's serviceable and pays itself off after a few times of servicing instead of replacing it with an oem for $20(?) each time.

Recently sold 97 m3 sedan, loved it

Looking for replacment mcoupe, but LOVE the "styling" and size of the a4 3.0 cab - for purpose of work versus pure 2 seater fun..

A little apprehensive of A4 given consumer reports bashing of the vehicle's electronic, slow tranny, and other who knows what issues. Regardless, love german engineering and want to doubt consumer reports - figured I'd go straight to the source for feedback - owners / enthusiasts

Had a early 80's Audi 4000 in the family years ago, it was a true nightmare mechanically, but assuming they've come a long way

Any feedback would be nice. I've found a few A4's low mileage (2003-2005) but one had a replaced transmission, female owner, which was a little concerning. Given she knew nothing about cars, I was concerned she could cause a tranny issue when I am used to driving the SH** out of cars. Although I do realize, the A4 will require a tad less aggressive driving and I am ok with that, but I don't want to have to baby it. I have an '86 MR2 I just rebuilt and I can continue to beat the hell out of it on those days requiring such, so I am basically ready to consider a nicer more "mature" looking vehicle for workplace (versus my smurf blue lowered performance hog - my Mister 2).

At any rate, my concerns are transmission, electrical, and motor with the 3.0
years I am looking at 03-05 (convertible)

Any advise, warnings, kudo's welcomed

e36 m3 is a dope machine. Stepping 'down' to an a4 is meh. Have you considered an S series ?

Regardless of what vehicle you check for reviews on, online is always a source of a ton of negative and rarely good for all vehicles, not just our beloved Audis.

My suggestion is go out and try driving a few. Check out the seating position and see if you like how it feels.

Thank you for the reply. I love the S series, but way too rich for this gal (notice the M I had was 10 yrs old).

Not so much concerned with seating, ANYTHING is better than a camary or solara, which I've driven. I a, half inclined to look for a salvageable C55 AMG because they are ridiculously roomy and freaking haul - but its a tad too pricey at 30k used too. So, the A4's are most affordable a couple years old.

I gues I just wanted to check in with the audi forum members to see if the 3.0 specifically needs a new transmission in a few years, if that's the case - has audi recalled it - or is it just a freak thing that I cam across. Also electronics - what is it that seems to foul out on these electronically - ? if anything? I can handle broken basics, but replacing dash leds and capacitors isn't fun - had to do than in the M, but doesn't make it an instant don't buy. HOwever, if its the top getting stuck half way _ i wouldn't know how to fix and that would certainily **** me off..
