2003/A4/B6/3.0 - In my case also it mostly does it on first time lock. But recently I tried to test further any most of the time it seems to set off alarm alternative times..that is - first time it will lock fine, second time it will set off alarm after lock, third time again will lock fine! Did you do anything to get around this issue or planning to do anything? One of the euro cars mechanic I showed my car to said I would have to spend about 1200 USD to put a new sensor in. So far I have not found any solution from anyone..I even tried turning off sensor by pressing that button on the driver's side door but that still sometimes set off alarm.

I have not tried anything really. The only thing that I was told is that there is a separate battery somewhere for the alarm and that this may be dying causing the alarm to go off...doesnt really bother me 1200 bucks worth, so i am going to pray it doesnt beep when i try to sell the car lol...

I hope you're able to find a solution to this problem. I've been following this thread for some time now, as it's the only relevant topic I've been able to find via Google. It just seems like there should at least be someone somewhere else who has the problem - and an answer for it.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I've had this exact same problem since I purchased my car, except that my alarm sounds every time the car is locked (but locks normally after deactivated and reactivating the alarm.) I just got aftermarket Helix headlamps in the mail today, and upon installing them, the problem has completely vanished. The car locks without setting the alarm off and starts every time without reading SAFE in the display every other time.

I'm 99% sure that the headlight components don't affect the convenience system at all (at least that's what I recall from my Bentley schematics) but it's still very strange that it fixed the problem. If it comes back, then I suppose it was a fluke and I'll be sure to mention it.

I still haven't found any solution to my issue ... However, thought to add one more details. After couple of months of living with this problem, I can say that the pattern in my case is every alternate time. Like, first time it sets off alarm, second time it doesn't, then the third time it again sets off alarm..Can't the sensor/programming be reset in anyways?
