Ok, so all this talk has got me thinking...

Money is no object - both engines are within my price range.
-I live in a city where 6 months of the year is winter, so I'm really focused on reliability.
-Also, love power - I liked how the 3.2 jumped off the line, no turbo lag. If I got the 2.0T, I don't see myself getting it chipped.
-Would be taking the Q5 to the mountains, so need ample "get up and go" to pass.
-Fuel economy b/w the two engines is a toss up - not enough of a difference to sway me either way.
Won't be towing anything, just carrying skis/ golf clubs/ etc.
-Low maintenance is a priority...
-I can see myself driving this car for 5+ years

I test drove the A4 2.0T and did notice some turbo lag, which was annoying. Obviously don't have a 2.0T Q5 to compare to quite yet.

Any input on engine choice is welcome... I was solidly set on a 3.2... (still can't quite fathom that for someone who wants power, a 2.0T on this weighty of a truck is the way to go...)

I am using my Q5 in the same manner, no towing, lots of highway driving, going up north, skiing etc... and love my 270 HP. Turbo engines are a bit more expensive to maintain in the long-term when the car gets a bit older. Although the 2.0t engine will give you about 15 more in torque, the 3.2 will give you an extra 60 HP. So in your case I say wait another month or so and test drive the Q5 2.0t but I think the 3.2 will give you what you're looking for.

While I don't have drive select on my car, the feedback and control I am getting from the 3.2 is incredible and I have driven it aggressively on various types of roads at various speeds. While I am not to happy with the tip-tronic not being very smooth (but barely noticeable) , the sports mode does impress me each time I use it.

I hope this helps.

Why not the Diesel engine? Why the 2.0? Audi, hello we have diesel gas here too!

The illusion is that North American's aren't ready for diesel I disagree with that. I think the issue is, there isn't as many diesel engines as there should be to provide us with choices. If the Q5 was TDI I wouldn't have even thought twice about getting it.

Look how well the A3 TDI is going? They need to get on with this.

I think the Canadian market is ready but manufacturers are scared to take chances. I think if Audi steps up they will have a nice lead over the other German manufactures. I think instead of the 2.0 a TDI version of Q5 should have came out instead next year and the Q3 for sure should come out with a TDI version right off the bat and I will guarantee it will put a damper on the X1 sales.

Alright, it's settled then... Audi Canada we have 4-6 buyers (me included) right now for a Q5 with a TDI (2.0/3.0). How about a group buy via European delivery?

Warcity, of course you are entitled to your opinion. What I have a problem with is that you`re bashing the vehicle/engine without even trying it. I believe that you and others are only objecting because of the potential "devaluation" that the availability of the 2.0t may cause to the Q5 3.2.
I disagree, the B5 A4 had both a 1.8t and 2.8 V6, B6 A4 - 1.8t and 3.0, B7A4 - 2.0t and 3.2 and lastly the B8 A4 with the new 2.0t and the discontinued 3.2. Add to this the A6 with the 6 and 8 and the Q7 with the 6 and 8. None ever interfered with each other, all different buyers.
This vehicle is available in Europe and other markets with four different engines; 3.2, 2.0t, 3.0 TDI and 2.0 TDI. Each attract a different buyer, and the same will happen in our market.

I'm all for the TDI versions of the Q5, but I believe we'll see the A4 before the Q5. But not yet, not until the US gets it. Canada's total sales are just under 2% of Audi's total worldwide sales. I don't think 4, 6 or more of us will increase that percentage enough to justify them bringing them over.

That makes us the perfect North American Test Marketfor a 3.0 TDI. If (and that is if) Audi believes North America is not ready for the 3.0TDI have a go at it and try it out.

I have driven it in Argentina. Tonnes of torque. But it would be a very expensive engine, more so than the 3.2 gas, an additional $3k minimum, with a base price of at least $47k for the entry level model and over $60k for the Premium.

We'll most likely see the A4 TDI in 2012 and the Q5 TDI in 2013 IMO.
