Anyone manage to negotiate the 5-6% discounts the folks in the US are seeing?

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

The $US is worth $1.24 CDN today, it was $1.34 CDN when I ordered in April. Thats a 7.5% reduction in the exchange rate right there. Maybe it'll be 10% by the time I get the car! I'm not sure how Audi factors in international currency exchange rates in their prices but it must be a huge issue, thats their profit margin right there, and it could go either way. Who knew the universal currency of the $US dollar would Celine so much against Canuck Bucks in such a short period? Based on that our US friends should be paying more for their vehicles and we should pay less. But as I say, it works both ways and our economy is surprisingly strong given the beating our energy industry is taking.

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

Audiguz - do you have the car now? Can you confirm it took 19 days (roughly) from the shipping date until you were able to pick up at dealer?

Others- on exchange rates, I have been looking at car, price differences between the US and CA. One of the reasons I bought the Q5 is that Audi appears to be setting prices at about a 7% difference between the two countries. All other car companies are in the 15-17% range. This compares to actual exchange rates of 25-35%. So Audi is cheaper in CA. Also not that car companies can forward hedge currencies to protect revenue or factor in where their costs come from. For example, if they buy parts from a US or CA supplier then this partially offsets currency fluxuations.

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

The Q5 finished production on July 7 and it arrived at the dealership (Windsor ON) on July 26; I am not sure on the exact date it was shipped.

We received Audi Care for free from Audi Canada due to the delay in production and delivery.

We are picking the Q5 up this friday as we live 3 hrs away from Windsor and were unable to get there this past weekend. Pretty excited!

Any thoughts on Audi After Care from anyone? We are purchasing the Q5 and plan to keep it for ~8 years.

Seems like the quality hold issue has been solved given how fast your Q5 has come. My production date was July 22 so i should be a couple of weeks behind you.

I get confused by all the different services offered. If this is the one that protects the car against scratches etc, i think it is double coverage and not worth it (personal opinion). Some of what is offered is provided by your car insurance already. I did buy the Audi maintenance for 5 years (4 years after the 1st year free service). This was a reasonable value i thought. I also bought the shark skin protection as i live in the country side and there are a lot of bug splats that can be hard to remove.
Audi also offers extended warranty but you can buy this later as well (before lapse of your current warranty) from what i was told. The typical fear pressure was put on me in the sales process to buy all the extra stuff. My response was i prefer a car that doesn't have problems and if i get a large cost during the first 8 years then i simply won't buy an Audi again. Hope this helps.

Value of Canadian dollar has little to do with the discount you get ar the dealer. Audi corp uses exchange arbitrage to hedge their cost and margin. Audi's making money in the various countries it is just a question of how much margin.

I received 5% off and ordered in January. I have a fully loaded Technic.

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

I have the same problem of delivery.

2018 Q5 Progressiv with Led lights ordered March 15, 2017, built June 2, 2017 and then delayed delivery twice (beginning of July, end of July and we are presently at the end of August). Very long delays.

Who had Audi Canada compensation for these delivery times? I read that some have had Audi Care for free? Something else ? Difficulty to negotiate any compensation?

audiguz 08-04-2017 08:18 AM

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

Sounds like your car may have had the quality control hold, which I assume mine did not (built July 7 delivered July 26).

I got free Audi Care. The sales manager negotiated on my behalf. With the size of your delay I would push for more.

I got 5.5% off msrp on a Technik, ordered end of June, excitedly waiting.
I was provided the following by the dealer:
Production Week: 3117 (July 31st)
Production Complete: 2017/Aug/02
Domestic Port Arrival (ETA): 2017/Sep/07

I ordered on January 20th and received on June 16. Pricing was formally available that week. Early adopter meant i did not get Lane Assist which I wanted. Initial delivery date was mid April but we all know what happened with Audi's ability to deliver their cars.

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

Sounds like Audi still has long delays in delivering new Q5's to Canada.

I ordered a Q5 in mid-July (Technik, Comfort seat pkge, metallic paint, walnut interior trim). The order form lists expected delivery as Oct.31/2017, but dealer says delivery will likely be late Nov or early Dec.

In researching subject, it appears that Audi & VW in Mexico are grappling with serious transportation issues from these plants. Sounds like the core problems involve trucking and trains. No evidence that a problem exists once vehicles are loaded onto ships or after delivery to N. American delivery points.

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

Hi all

I ordered a 2018 Q5 from the downtown Toronto location and they said production is scheduled for July 31 and delivery for late August/early September. Does anyone have an updated status on cars from the July 31 production run? I saw in earlier replies some people were even able to track what boat their car was on but I am not sure how they got that information.

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

I ordered a Utopia Blue Technik with Adaptive Air Suspension, Urban Driver Assist, Comfort Interior, rear airbags. Ordered on April 11, built week of July 11, and being delivered to Victoria BC the week of August 11 so almost exactly 3 months from order to build and 1 month to deliver as I was told by the dealer. Seems like a long delivery time given we are on the same continent. Unfortunately I'm out of town so it'll be a week before pickup. Just saw the photos of the 2019 e-tron Quattro....whoa thats some spicy tamale. Norwegians get first in to pre-order. I think knowing its around the corner may actually hurt Q5 sales next year, it looks awesome.

Western Eagle 08-13-2017 04:33 PM

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

Roadkilt - like you, I was intrigued by photos of the 2019 e-tron Quattro. However, I'm not sure it will be competing with the Q5 directly.

It appears to be very "squat" which means interior room - especially headroom - will be limited. It also looks like road clearance is quite a bit less than a Q5.

This may be more of a competitor to the A4 Allroad station wagon?? Would be interested in comments from others on forum. (I considered the Allroad as an alternative to the Q5 but several factors made the Q5 a better buy for us - better ground clearance, more cargo capacity & easier to enter/exit due to height above road surface. I think the Allroad is a beautiful looking vehicle.)

Roadkilt 08-13-2017 04:40 PM

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

I specifically wanted the Q5 with the Air Suspension as its has class leading height and clearance with it. Although Vancouver island doesnt get a lot of snow on the coast the interior gets tough winter weather and most interior roads on the island arent paved. I'm not so sure how well the tires will do but I ordered the 19" which should help soak up potholes. The e-torn Quattro does look "city" with its chopped height look.

A whole pile of Q5s showed up in their finest travel bags, including mine. Off to be cleaned and detailed for two days then ready for delivery. I'll be picking mine up next monday. Dealer giving me $20K for my 2013 Audi A4 Premium Plus loaded with new rubber and roof racks, mint, with 48500 km. I think the sales manager is a bit of a d**k but my sales guy has been superb for my last two audis. Audi is screwing me somewhat on the trade in although the tax advantages against the purchase make it a little more attractive. Certainly the loooongest vehicle purchase I've made...5 months to pickup.

Mine was ready today (dealer called 2 days ago) but I couldn't make it for today. Will be picking it up on solar eclipse day (Aug 21st)

yay!!!
They are giving me 15.5k$ in trade for my 2012 Q5 Premium with 120k km on it. They low balled it I know but meh! I don't really care anymore lol!

Enjoy your rides boys!

Hi, I am from Calgary, AB I ordered SQ5 3.0 Technik (Mythos Black) on May 17th. Today I spoke to the Sales guy and according to him its 5 days away from Halifex port and I will receive by September 19/20th max. No sure how many months normally it takes to build, shipped and process for delivery. Its really frustrating. Is this true SQ5 shipped from mexico by ship to Halifex, how many days it takes by road to shipped from Halifex to Calgary then? or they are just making up something. Really frustrating...-:(

Roadkilt 08-23-2017 09:34 AM

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

That sounds correct, 4 months from order to delivery, although its odd thats the route. Even shipping by pacific coast would be faster to Calgary than Halifax. Ordered mine April 9 and it showed up Aug 13 or so to Vancouver.

I'm glad I've had two A4s, the number of settings and tweaks possible is ridonculous. Get ready to spending some quality time in the seat with the manual. Knowing the MMI style from the past helps a lot.

Been awhile since Ive had an "SUV" style, much heavier and tank like compared to the A4. Engine on/off behaviour easy to adjust to. Now I'm in the 1500km break in so no hard driving or sudden stops so can't really check out all the possibilities. Air suspension is fast and effective though. But you can feel the high centre of gravity and it has a slope warning display if you are on a side hill.

Its unfortunate we dont get the Google earth maps option or wifi in Canada. I hope Audi is adding that at some point soon, its redundant map displays with CarPlay from apple and Audi maps seem goofy to have on at the same time.

Not sure who your dealer is, but I ordered my SQ5 mid April at Royal Oak and took delivery this week.

Mine was shipped via a combination of rail and truck from Mexico to Edmonton (designated port) and then truck transport to the dealer in Calgary. I doubt that yours went by ship to the east coast.

What dealer did you purchase at?

Thanks for your reply. I ordered May 17th with Royal Oak Audi. Sales guy Alejandro...according to him I will receive by September 15/18. Who was your sales guy...Yea, thats what I am thinking. Why they shipped by east coast!! Not sure is there any miscommunication or so..lets see..hopefully I will receive my mid Sept..

Alejandro was my sales associate as well. He was really helpful throughout the entire process and went out of his way to get me answers and info whenever I asked.

I would be sure to check in with him again tomorrow to confirm where it's at. Like I said, it should be shipped by rail/truck to Edmonton and then trucked back to Calgary to the dealership. If it really is on a boat headed to port on the east coast, I'm at a loss.

Re: Did anyone order the 2018 Q5

Hi, I'm new to the ''Audi World'' and can't wait to receive our new 2018 Q5 Technik. We ordered the car in mid-May. I have my VIN since August 23rd (finally!!!). ETA is pretty vague, with a 4 weeks range! Once a VIN is attributed to a vehicle, is it ready to be released and shipped? Is there a way to find out its itinerary and get a better sense of delivery date? My salesman (located in the Montreal, Qc area) does not seems to know much more... Many thanks!
