I got to disagree with you. There are lots of MY 00 and 01s that have 100K+ km on them chipped and stock with not a peep from the turbos.
You do a disservice to all Audi owners by making comments like that especially folks with the 2.7T engine.
My S4 has a build date of 07/99 with 90,000km on the clock It still runs fine. What do you consider not lasting very long?
I suspect most the guys who have blown turbos drove them hard and talked loudly about it, which contribute to this feeling people have about the 2.7T engine.

I spoke with the person who did blow one of his turbo, when his car was fully stock (60,000km), a few days ago and I came to realize that he didn't properly cool down the car after giving it a good beating. Shutting off the car when the turbo/exhaust manifold area is cherry hot is not a good idea.
