Default Engine Chips...

Probably the most common performance part for the 1.8 and 2 litre Turbo engines.

Which ones are the most popular and add the most horsepower/torque?

Do any of you have experience with any of the chips?

I am quite happy with my APR chipped engine, gave immediate feel in the low end torque and put the TT up on it's feet a bit more

APR and GIAC are the two big ones. It's like 90% of the people are using them.

Don't forget Upsolute! It may not be common on the US boards. But a lot of VW/Audi use Upsolute in Toronto. I'm an Upsolute dealer in GTA give me a shout! chris@upsolute.ca

Also visit www.upsolute.ca

If you are not happy we will give you a full refund!

The names of other chip tuners that have not been mentioned yet are Revo and Unitronic.

I personally use APR but besides GIAC, you can also get a Revo done locally too (I think the draw was that you could get a free trial whereby you can drive the car chipped for a pre-set amount of time and see whether you liked it).

The reason I chose APR was 'cause I liked the idea of switching programs with my cruise control button actually, more so than any real performance gains with one brand over another (there's not much difference with GIAC and APR anyway)

Yeah, I actually emailed you guys about the BT software before; however, I don't have easy access to a AWD dyno around for doing fine tuning, that why I went for my Unitronic.

I heard Revo's BT works good too, but they don't offer anything for B5.

No question that APR's flipswitch is slick (had it for both my B5 and B6) but REVO and GIAC also have switchable options using plug in devices.

The Upsolute look interesting. How long will the turbo last on a 2.7T if its programmed with so much more boost, or is it the engine management that is being boosted as well?.............

Is this for the A6 or the S4? Earlier models of the B5 S4 turbos are on the weak side, the don't last very long even if the car is stock. Other than that the turbos should last a long time. Our program for the 2.7T boosts at about 1 to 1.1 bar. Besides the boost, timing is also advanced for more power gains.

We are currently having a Spring Special and the offer ends at the end of April.

I have a 2000 A6, so I guess I have the early turbo......
