Hey fellow 5000 owners!
I just ditched my 5000 SQ for a 1986 5000 CD TQ! no 20v here sadly.. but 1 day..
She's in great shape considering her years, and most everything works great.
I'd like some advice on a couple matters:
#1: My dash lights don't work. I have headlights working, but my dash will only flicker and go out when i turn on the headlights. At the same time, when i turn on the lights, it causes my ECON display to go blank. Any idea's? It sucks not have dash lights!
#2: I'd like to know how to tinker with my turbo boost pressure. I've driven the same car that had it done, and the difference was incredible. Is it necessary to take apart the engine and make sure everything is sound before tinkering with this? Or should the engine be able to handle a bit of a boost increase?

hey, welcome to the forum... I think you should check your compression before you start messing with boost levels and make sure your engine is healthy...

5000dude, have a poke around the 5000 forum on audiworld.com and motorgeek.com for more info regarding your dashlights...my first guess would be the dimmer switch housed in the econ display pod or a crack in the instrument panel printed circuit.

As for more boost, it can be done quite easily with an upgraded ecu chip and a heavier waste gate spring. I've done it along with a by-pass valve installation and the car holds 17psi of boost all day long if I want. 94 octane and a reasonably healthy engine are of course a must.

The chips and springs can be had from Ben Swann or another fellow on the audiworld 5000 forum that goes by the name of "Boxerfan"

Hey Bill, my 5000 is an 84 S, my grandfather gave it too me for my 16th birthday, i drove it for a couple years, and have gone trhough a few newer Vw`s, but i kept the Audi. im currently fixing it up for this spring, its sand beige with chocolate brown interior.. not to sporty! its current mileage is a mere 137000km, 50 of which were put on by me. shes just one of those cars i cant get rid of, my grandpa bought it new in 84, and it was manifactured in October 83, so it must be the first bach of the aero style 5000.

Hey nice 5000!! Damn i wish mine looked like that right now.. Those rims are sweet, I like how the previous owner made a rounded rear wheel arch to match the front.. I might do that to mine now lol. Tinted rear lights aswell mm very nice. What's been done to the engine?
Post away man post away! Lets get some 5k talk going!

It still needs a good polish and a good cleaning inside.Yeah the rims are from a mercedes amg 18x8 and i like the rounded wheel arches as well,i think it looks better. The rear lights are tinted,as well as the turning signals on the front.Nothing has been done to the engine so far,I'm thinking of chipping the ecu and higher boost for now, maybe some other stuff but nothing major right now.I dont have many more pics but i'm hoping to get some once/if the car is insured/registered. I'm thinking about doing a custom exaust (straight piped to a magnaflow) as well as changing the lifters and timing belt in the near future depending on what happens to the engine, might be getting a rebuild. I'm also looking for some new front lights but not sure if there is anything aftermarket out there?

Chris, the stock lights are probably the weakest feature on the whole car, what you want are set of the "Eurolights" with a relayed wiring harness to match. They are spendy though so you may just be better off putting in a nice set of PIAA driving lights. Where to find Eurolights? Cheapest by far is via German Ebay, then the various Audi forums, ie Audiworld, motorgeek etc.
Also find yourself a Bentley manual, that will pay for itself in no time and just about any problem you will ever encounter has been diagnosed on the sjmautotechnik website ( I posted the link earlier)
