5000 owners?

Re: 5000 owners?
Hey Charlie;
Not much response out there for us lowly 5000 owners is there?! It's like we're the original granddads, and we've moved into a retirement home and the kids won't visit any more.
I've got a '86 CD Turbo Avant w 232K that gives me much delight as most features still work well and she still drives like a bear. I've just now started to pull the grill apart to provide access to the crank pully, as the timing belt is probably waaay over due. Don't know exactly how I'm going to loosen that damnable crank bolt though, not easy without Audi's special locking tool. One would think that kind of info would be all over this forum, but I can't find it. I guess perhaps most are resigned to having a shop do the dirty work.
So, how 'bout yours?
Bill

Re: 5000 owners?
Hey guys, I've managed to collect my fair share of them over the years. I've got four that I pillage for parts and three on the road ( 2 x 5ktq and 1 x 200tq). They're a pain at times but still an unbelievably fun car in all kinds of weather.
Bill, you can use a breaker bar, socket and the starter motor if you can believe to undo that crank pully bolt, just make sure you know which way the engine spins!
HEAPS of info can be found on audiworld.com, sjmautotechnik.com and motorgeek.com

Re: 5000 owners?
Thanxs latchkeykid for the suggestion, I've tried using the starter motor technique, as well as a 'wonder bar' pry bar, to no avail. Going to try welding 2 lugs to a 2" steel flat bar next. Here's hoping.

Re: 5000 owners?
Nah other than the upgraded interior, the MC2/k24 combo/torsen diff it's pretty much the same as a 5ktq, the rounded rear wheel arches were a 20vt only feature. The 200 is on the left, relatively stock other than some Euro lights I put in since the pic was taken. The white car on the right has a bunch of suspension upgrades, chipped ecu, stronger WG spring and a few other goodies.
