Default Trouble brought me here

Glad to be a part of the community! I joined to see if any of you have ever had this problem and i could not figure out where to post it so I will describe here. I hope I do not upset anyone.

My name is Rob and I'm from Boise, Idaho. I own a 1990 Audi 80 quattro and love it. The bearings started going out at 197k so I decided to drop in a new motor. All went well, but now when i turn the headlights on and come to idle, the car will stall.

Car will run fine with the headlights off or with the headlights on and driving down the highway, but at idle it takes about a minute, but the car will stall eventually so i have to turn the headlights back off and restart.

Crazy...can't be the craziest you've ever read here though.

Sorry to join up to bring you my headache, but I look forward to hearing what you all have to say.

Thanks

check battery and alternator. Load test alone on battery may not be sufficient. Also, if not battery at fault, get alternator tested and ask for print out of output versus rpm. Test headlight circuit for short. Test total car electrical draw before and after headlights turned on. All this may at least lead to the problem, which then of course can be fixed.

Jordan, thanks for checking on the follow ups.

Thanks for all of the responses. Sorry I have not been on in a little while.

The battery and alternator both check out. I am taking it to an Audi Whiz Kid today to see what he can find. I will post the solution to the problem as soon as I know something. Hopefully he finds it.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Christmas!
