Why don't you contact your insurance company and ask them these questions - they should have a pretty good idea of the increase, if any. What province do you live in? The purpose of insurance is to cover these types of incidents. In this case, if a total paint job is required, I wouldn't think twice about using insurance......if it was a small scratch where you would have to pay a deductible, I wouldn't bother. Ultimately, it depends on the type of insurance coverage you have, as each province is different. Speak to your agent about the pros and cons. Also, get a quote from an autobody shop - I think your figures might be a little high.

 

Damn, is there any way you could possibly track down who did it?

Its going to require repainting every pannel that was damaged but that could quickly run you a lot of money. Comprehensive insurance depending on your deductible should be invoked IMO.
Depending on your insurance company, comprehensive claims may be "no fault" so your premiums will stay the same but with other companies they can go up. This is something to ask your agent about.
