Well Actually I just finished reading the full post...

The RS6 03 is a stunning car! I saw a few close... If you do not care about the gaz bill (which should be around the a6 4.2) and maintenance (which might be higher than the a6 but I am not expert) go for it.

the rs6 has such a powerfull aura!

I didn't bother reading all 7 pages but it doesn't look like you've made a decision yet.
As an S4 Avant owner and seeing your minimum requirements, I'd go for the S6 Avant. It's probably the best compromise. The S4 Avant, albeit doable, may be a tad on the small side for you and the Allroad will leave you wishing you got an S model every time you drive it which isn't a way to live (from your spirited driving).

Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your decision.

You are correct that I have yet to have make a decision, yes Mike, still thinking. The one thing that has been decided is that we are getting rid of the dog. He's a good dog, just can't trust him around the baby. So this lessens my need for a wagon even more, now you all might thing that this might help to make a choice but all it really does in introduce sedans into the mix, and makes the RS6 more attractive.

My wife has taken a shine to this Canyon Red Pearl A6 (2006 I think it was) with the 4.2. Now it's a beautiful car, nice colour, no Imola yellow, but sure better than gray... and it's the new body. But it's like Axel said will it "leave you wishing you got an S model every time you drive it which isn't a way to live". That I don't think I can answer just yet. Alas, we'll just have to wait and see what opportunities come my way.

I am super late on this one, but I have come to expose the virtue of the 2.7T. I have a B5S4, and it is a bit tight for a family, though not impossible; however, the 2.7 Allroads on the other hand...spacious, attractive, and if you are willing to invest in some mods...now we are talking a serious RS6 killer.

I went for a rip in a 2.7t that was tuned to about 550hp...I have never been pinned back in my seat so hard...EVER! Mind you, you would need a manual to handle that kind of power...but there are several to be had in the US. Plus, despite what everyone else here has said...turbos are a lot of fun. I think Porsche likes to use them.

My only knock against the Allroad (if you get the suspension fixed) is that the interior is a bit old looking. I could see that being a deal breaker for a wife...but since you don't share your toys, it may not matter. So...for around the price of an RS6 you could have a fully built, 400-600hp Allroad with a killer suspension. I would rather have that to a sedan any day.

Then again, that is my 2 cents.

Can you shed some light on what mods were done to that 2.7T to make 550 BHP? It seems like that would require more than some k04's and a chip...

And don't get me wrong about turbo cars, I love them, especially with open exhaust, after you shut it down and get out, you can pause and listen to the spool down...ahhhh. I've had a few too, mostly Scooby's, my last was a 2.5 with my favourite turbo toy attached, my Blitz DSBC controller, 4 programs of crazy fun, and about 150 BHP with the turn of a ****.

But that said pushing the kind of pressures needed for big power, makes for big maintainence. Even with a "race prep" motor, ie. built for that kind of boost, it still needs more shop time and money than I want my daily driver to have. I'd prefer the more "factory strung out" turbo engines.

Here is my understanding of the Mods he did:
-RS6 Turbos
-RS4 intake
-Piggie downpipes (stock downpipes with the precats gutted)
-Miltek exhaust
-custom fueling
-vast tune

There is probably a few other things, but he did no engine work whatsoever.

The funny thing, is I would not use the word "strung out" to describe his car. It felt smoother and more refined than any stock B5 I have ever been in (I have been in a strung out K03 car...yikes!). With the big turbos, I don't think they were working anywhere near their capacity. From my understanding, it has a lot to do with Vast's tuning. Honestly, it felt more like stock than stock.

All I can say regarding the S models is that I still enjoy driving my S4. Sure, it's the most powerful car I've owned to date so it's obviously a step up for me and sure, I would like to add more power to it down the road when finances allow. That said, every time I drive the car, I enjoy it...a lot. It's the first car that I've owned that I've felt that in. Every other car I've owned (some were decent with hp numbers in the mid 200s) left me wanting more less than a year into owning them. I know that I personally wouldn't want to feel that again. I guess for me, a power to weight ratio of 0.085 (hp per pound) or higher is what I need to be satisfied To each their own though.

I hear ya on that one, and that's partly why I'm so torn about what to buy. I really don't want to sacrifice the performance/fun/love for practicality. I'd hate to buy something and then not enjoy driving it, I've had way too many of those cars.
