Headlight problems on '06 S4
Has anyone experienced headlight flickering and dipping problems on their B7 S4?
My headlights often flicker and once in a while, the headlight will dip and won't raise again (causing the little crossed out bulb to show up on my display).
Any ideas? Headlights loose or something???

When I was looking at buying a 2006 S4 in Saskatoon they guy said he had the "HID ballast and headlight assembly" changed under warranty because the light was flickering on the one side. He said that fixed it. Could be the partly the same issue? Sounds expensive if not under warranty.

Sometimes the ballast gets too hot and it can melt the circuitry inside. Make sure the headlight unit is properly closed/sealed. It happens, a new replacement ballast will run you around $800-$900 from the dealer, unless it is under warranty. Some Dodge vehicles use the same part and it runs at about $250. It sounds it also might be the igniter itself, which can be replaced separately for a fraction of the cost

Hi,
I have had this problem twice once my previous car it was the A4 2.0T 173 kw the dealer changed both lamp and it stopped flickering.
I am now having the same problem on my S4 B7 tomorrow the dealer is changing the lamps.
It is the first step they take as it is the cheapest fix, the next thing they will do if it does not stop is t change the ballast.
I hope you have cover.

I got them to change the igniter and it fixed the problem.
Would be nice if Audi didn't ignore this issue. You've had it three times. I did some research and it's quite common but Audi won't do anything about it (i.e. no recall) and it doesn't even trigger any computer codes.

Re: Headlight problems on '06 S4
this is somewhat common on 2005.5 US cars, or 2006 Canadian cars (which appear to be identically equipped even though 2006 US cars are slightly different)
search other forums for resolutions...I can't remember what it is, but it's nothing awful.

Re: Headlight problems on '06 S4
I've had the exact same problem with my 06 S4 Sedan on the left side.
The dealer said it could either be the light assembly or the ballast. Since it is still under warranty, the dealer first exchanged the left side ballast with the right side to see if the problem followed. It did not and the problem continued on the left side. They replace the light assembly. It's been 6 months now and the problem has not come back.
Under warranty so i have no idea how much $$$$.
