Re: 2004 s4
Awesome! The 4.2L is an excellent engine and is used in several models for many years. I have nothing but good things to say of the S4 4.2L cars I have driven and maintained.

Re: 2004 s4
hey K04-S4,
My car is in good shape, i haven't had any problems - but remember, my engine was swapped for a 07 model, and all the problems seemed to be fixed by then. It might be worth taking it into audi to have them test if there are oil leaks - i remember reading they can figure this out somehow... =)...

Re: 2004 s4
My 2007 S4 Avant never burned a drop of oil over the approx 2 years I owned it (it was from the US). With respect to importing a vehicle, provided you understand the costs to get one over the border as well as the potential to lose a bit on resale if the purchaser prefers a CDN car, it can be a win win situation. There are many more available south of the 49th making it possible to get a car exactly how you like it and save some money at the same time. One point to note, driving an S4 with a US cluster can get you into trouble as the car feels like you're doing under 50 kph when the speedo reads 50 MPH.

Audi Dealer $ervice can get expensive and there are other options.

Re: 2004 s4
early B6 models (early build 2004 model year specifically) are full of surprises. I'd avoid them, personally and try to step up to a 2005 or 2005.5 if you can. There are deals out there.
The oil burning can be a number of things. If it's like a quart every 600-1500 miles, you've got a problem and don't want to touch the car.
Not to promote another forum here, but consider reading up over on EUROADDICTION.NET in the B6/7 S4/RS4 section. It's the best collection of information and owners of the 4.2 S4 platforms and will surely yield enough information for you.

Re: 2004 s4
the platform is a bit different...obviously the body, but there are a bunch of technical improvements in the later B7 cars that the B6/early B7 didn't get.

Re: S4 from the US
none. just VAGCOM activation of your daytime running lights (which takes 3 minutes and can be free if you know someone with VAGCOM)
