the tires can't deviate more than 1/4". yes autocrossers also use this but
so do a lot of AWD cars, but you should know that.

Gee; you'd think that in over 10 years of teaching driving schools for the
BMW and Audi QUATTRO clubs, I'd have run into (or even heard of) *somebody*
who shaved his tires to size ... but I haven't.

BTW, want to tell us all you know about AWD differentials? Start with how
many Audi Quattro differentials *you've* ever seen *fail* (as I seem to
recall that was the original topic here). Of those, how many failed because
the tire diameters diverged by more than your 1/4" benchmark? When you
determine that number, divide any whole number by it and tell us what
message you see on your computer screen.

(Hint: "Divide overflow")

If your tires vary in diameter, there would be a differential in
circumference, would there not? Say, what type of device on a car
would tolerate a differential in circumference? What do they call
those things? The name escapes me, but they're located at the front,
rear, and centre of an AWD vehicle. They magically tolerate a
differential in tire size.
Aw, , I don't no, but there's a name for it.

To the guy that started this debacle:
Get a grip, buck up, and put a tire on it already. 14K off a tire
isn't going to grenade a car. Let it go. If you feel better, buy
five new tires.

!/4" of what? Diameter? Circumference? Seems a bit vague. Is that
a 1/4" on a 20" tire as well as the same 1/4" on a 13" tire?
