Hello everyone,

2005 A6 C6 4F 3.0tdi s-line quattro


I've tried searching the forum (and google, you tube, with key words but most relate to battery or nothing related anywhere i could find).,

so, jumped out to car tonight ~ sat down ~ key in the ignition ~ all lights on as normal ~ stick my seatbelt on ~ put out mirrors ~ twist key to start engine ~ Nada ~ dead ~ silent.

1. all ignition lights on bright as normal

2. Turn key - nothing happens, not even a click or noise from starter, the twist in the key is just silence, no flicker of lights, just turns back as normal but with nothing.

3. MMI reading battery 100% ~ to be sure I hooked up jump-leads to another car and tried again., key in ~ turn on ignition (all lights on) ~ turn key to start engine (key just turns and twists back) ~ no flicker of lights ~ everything looking normal ~ repeat process, same result, turn key, nothing, just silence.

will now have to take tomorrow off work to have a better look in daylight.,

....if it was the starter i was thinking i may have heard it jam, or click, or struggled first to start car.., ?

...yesterday it was fine, parked as normal, back out tonight and get this?

I would really appreciate if anyone else has came across this before to help me out please., cars been a trusty servant over the past 4 years and this pain in the *** is certainly a new one on my 25 years motoring..,

I am new here and to Audi's.

Is it in park or neutral? Try shifting back and forth in case its the neutral safety switch. If its an auto.
check for a fuse?

If it helps anyone else in future:

1. Left battery connected via jump leads to another car battery for about 15 mins or so.
2. Tried a few times and it finally started. (yay!)
3. took car to garage and got battery tested.
4. Battery showed power but also says 'unrepairable' (fault somewhere in it).
4. Bought new battery (£159 ouch).

(guy at garage says its the biggest battery they sell, (circa 900amps at start up)., may explain why a straight jump start never worked and had to connect/charge battery for about 15 mins, before it gained enough power to kick it).

Anyway's all seems to be good again for now ~

 

will give the EGR a blast with wynn's cleaner whilst i'm off .,

 

I'm glad you got it start mate.

Nothing like starting a Diesel engine with 900 CCA battery. I hope your garage installed an AGM battery. I replaced mine (gas) with a Bosch AGM L5 850 CCA battery.

Now I also know as well, that the Battery must be in top shape!

had the same problem. turned out to be a very expensive chip in the steering column $$$$$$$$
