Default 2011 A4 2.0T Premium vagcom error

My first post so bear with me!

I took my car to my own mechanic to have the 25K maintenance. Unfortunately, he couldn't reset the service due reminder. He said that his laptop was unable to communicate with my car with the vagcom. The mechanic recommended that I take it to the dealer.

Several weeks ago (prior to the maintenance), I had my friend try to connect to the vagcom with his laptop and also was unsuccessful.

I plan on bringing it to my dealer, but has anyone else experienced this problem? Could they make a stink about me taking it to an independent mechanic?

If they were using a generic scan tool they probably would have issues. If you use the real ross-tech cable you shouldn't have a problem.

I'm not sure what my mechanic was using, but my friend bought the genuine Ross-Tech cable.
