Default Premium plus 2011 2.0T Q5 silver interior Trim question

Hey guys, so I recently got my Canadian 2011 q5, and I always thought the base trim would be some sort of aluminum hexagon textured trim, however when I picked up my car, I noticed it looked and felt kinda like silver plastic trim and it had no texture at all. I went home, and it was bugging me a little, cause the 2011 catalogue showed base trims were called aluminum dimension trim (hexagon texture) I immediately called our sales man and he said Audi sent them a letter saying they ran out of that type of trim, so to get cars out faster, they were giving all customers the S Line trim. But then I asked, Isn't the S line trim real brushed aluminum? Mine just feels and looks like plastic....And he tried to assure me it was aluminum and also said the catalogue was outdated...But then the catalogue shows the 2011 2.0T, so I don't get it...

Does any of you have a pic of your base 2011 silver 2.0T trim, do you have the same as mine? It just looks like a silver plastic. Usually NOT cold to the touch unless parked outside in -0 temperatures... I mean it doesn't look bad, but I dunno, feels like I got jipped. Its just trim, but I paid A LOT of money for this car especially got the premium plus package.. I expect aluminum...

Also does anyone have a pic of this so called aluminum dimension trim in their interior. Thanks.

Pic of my interior. No close up of the trim, its basically silver with no texture and does not feel like aluminum... If it is aluminum, then its really got a thick coat of paint.... can anyone confirm?

Hi Quartz52. Thanks for raising an issue that I had not thought of as I have been waiting (patiently) for my 2.0 S-Line to arrive. A small item, maybe, but it all counts. I am coming out of an A3 that has the "Aluminum Dimension Silver Trim (ADS)"—the hexagon type you mention, which looks great—and I was assuming that the Q would come with the same. Since I saw your post I looked through the current Q5 catalogue and saw the other aluminum option: "Matt Brushed Aluminum (BMA)", which I suppose is the one you have. The brochure indicates that S-Line automatically comes with the MBA, while the "standard" finish is the ADS. I did not notice this before, and—based on your comment—I wish I had so that I could have at least attempted to get it switched for the ADS trim. I believe my Q is coming out of the factor this week so I assume I am too late. Damn.

I haven't seen the Matt Brushed trim in real-life, but hope it is not as fake-looking as you describe. Maybe you got something else swapped in to deal with the supply problems.
I have attached a pic of the trim in my A3 for reference. There is no mistaking that as anything other than aluminum.

Q5 2.0 S-Line, Lava Grey, Pano, Nav, ADS, B&O, Adaptive

Quartz52: Audi has been at the mercy of many of their vendors not being able to supply product. The "aluminum hexagon textured trim" (aluminum dimension silver) that you may have seen on other Q5 models is one of the products that was affected by these shortages. The platinum trim you received is the same trim that we received with both of the non-S Line Q5's (premium 2.0T and non-premium 3.2) that we received a week ago. It's a new trim that was introduced based on a decision to stop further delay in Q5 production. As an added perk, your Q5 will be that much more unique. This trim is not the same as the matte brushed aluminum S Line trim nor was there any decision to supply everyone with S Line trim that we were made aware of.

Cprg: S Line equipped Q5 orders that were in the system estimated to deliver by April 2011 should not be affected by any of the product shortages. Your Q5 should be equipped with the matte brushed aluminum trim that is included in every S Line package. Again, the matte brushed aluminum is not the trim that was equipped in Quartz52's Q5. Matte brushed aluminum is very distinctly aluminum, more so than aluminum dimension silver in my opinion. If you have opportunity, pop by your local dealer and you will be able to see it on any S Line equipped Audi.

Thanks Tony. That clarifies things...for me, anyway. I'm not sure the "unique" perk would satisfy me if I was in Quartz's shoes.

Not to bend this thread too much, but is there anything else on this 'product shortage' list that we should be aware of? I had initially heard it was S-Line specific and related to the 20" wheels.

Product shortages happen all of the time. The big one that was a recent issue for the Q5 was the 20" tires. Audi had actually stopped taking orders for S Line packages for a short time because of it. All of our April and later orders for S Line equipped Q5's that were not pre-sold were changed and the S Line packages were deleted. The Lava Grey 3.2 S Line that we recently put into our showroom will be the last one we will have available to show for a long time.

Thanks Tony for your clarification. I guess it is a perk to be one of the Q's to have a rare trim...(though I assume the trim is from the base model Q in Europe )

Its just too bad it isn't aluminum...(as far as I can tell anyway, not planning to rip the thing off to check, but I got enough aluminum door handles and hardware in my house to know what it is, especially I'm a industrial designer)

Still looks great though,

but I did not get any sort of discount or notification from the dealer until I asked after I brought the car home. Thats why I am disappointed.

On the print out spec sheet label that came with the car, it mentions all of the details of my car, for the options, it says on the very bottom.

INLAY MICROMETALLIC PLATINUM -$400.00

Ok now it makes sense, I guess inlay micrometallic platinum means the colour of my trim..however the -$400 part..

What does this mean?

Should I have gotten a discount?

thank you.

Thanks for the picture Cprg, the A3 dash looks great... Ya like Tony said, you should be getting real matte brushed aluminum trim for sure because that is the only trim Sline comes with. It will look great.

According to Tony the S-line (which mine is) should still have the brushed aluminum, though in spite of what I said before I am not that concerned either way. I'm sure all the trim options look great—it's one of the things Audi does best.

A few weeks ago when I thought my order was going to be delayed, or cancelled (or stripped of the S-line package) because of the supply issues, I would have agreed to trim made of cheese...

hahaha, ya for sure I hear ya. Good thing you ordered it before all that S line parts shortage happened. that would suck if your Sline showed up with 18" base model wheels or something and the dealer hoped you didn't notice and also they didn't give you a discount. LOL.. j/k

Cause in someway, thats how I feel right now about my trim :/
