Default clutch job in alberta

hey guys i've been debating on whether or not to tackle replacing my clutch on my own or having a shop do it. can anyone give me any of their experiences getting a clutch replaced in alberta for a reasonable rate? preferably in edmonton but i'll drive to red deer/calgary if necessary.

i've been to autobahn performance in the past but wasn't thrilled with their service.

thanks in advance!

What model car do you have? There is a good ol' fashioned mechanics shop in Calgary on 17av SW called Bert and Jacks, reliable guys, with at least 50 years VW/Audi experience between the bunch!

JetTech 2.7T is an unknown quantity at this point
Thumbs down Re: clutch job in alberta

Have to agree with Ryannorthcott regarding Autobahn Performance service.
Had my TB and clutch done there on my '01 Audi 2.7T, had workmanship problems both with my TB cam seals and Main Seal when the clutch was done.

IMHO I would advise Audi owners with the 2.7T engine to stay away from this shop in the Edmonton area.
I have no confidence in their professional skills and honesty!!!

Choice is yours!

Please let me know what we have done wrong.
We have to fix it.

Sorry to hear this Peter.
We were trying to resolve this issue with you even after you told me you had
another shop in Edmonton working on this vechicle after we touched it.
If you still have an issue with it maybe here on this forum we can come to some agreement.
Let me remind you that you stormed out of my shop, slammed the door, without resolving this.

We replaced the cam seal under warranty just a few days after the other shop did the valve cover gaskets.
Then we installed a clutch supplied by you to save you money - we did that as a courtesy to you for the leaky cam seal.
Then the main seal housing showed a small coolant leak. We both agreed to monitor it since it is so small.
Then you showed up with a noisy turbo and decided to trade this car in and let the dealer worry about the leak and the bad turbos.
I have customers that heard you say this and can prove these were your exact words.
After 7 or 8 months you showed up again telling me that the other shop has the car now on the hoist
and they found a noise in the timing belt area and you expect me to pay for whatever the cost of the repair will be.
You have also told me that they have replaced the turbos because I didn't want to do this.
I am and Audi/VW repair shop - why wouldn't I want to do this for you?

You are an airplane technician yourself and have told me that the leaks from the
new installed seals occur in your field as well.
When you have a leak from a defective seal is you supervisor lacking confidence in your professional skills or your honesty?
We at Autobahn Performance would appreciate resolving situations like these
face to face with our customers and not being disrespected in this manner on the internet.
You come across as an intelligent and mature individual so it is disappointing to read your post on this forum. Some time has pased now- maybe
you can stop by the shop so we can rectify this situation.

Regards
Mark

well I don't know if you remember me but I was in for a rear coolant flange job on my A4. I was initially told it wouldn't take more than two hours, but it ended up taking five apparently. I was only charged for three hours of labour I believe but it was still more than I expected it to be. Also you told me I would have to get my valve cover gasket and cam chain tensioner gasket replaced and it would take 6-8 hours of labour. I bought the gaskets online and did the job myself in about two hours using guides from audizine.

You are right I don't remember your car exactly.
I would have to check the work order to see why three hours for just the flange.
Are you sure we didn't do anything else? No seized or broken bolts?
We are using "On demand" to get our labour times and that is what it calls for on
a cam chain tensioner seal.
Could you send me the link to the guides from audizine.
To do it properly timing belt tensioner should be compressed , chain tensioner should be compressed , both cams should be removed with the chain and chain tensioner.
I have the feeling you have replaced just the valve cover gasket and not the cam chain tensioner gasket that you got the quote for.

Regards
Mark

How-to: 1.8T Cam Chain Tensioner Gasket replacement - Audizine Forums

that was the guide I used for the cam chain tensioner gasket

:: a4mods.com :: - The Premiere Audi A4 Modification Guide and Pictures Library

and that was for the valve cover gasket.

Everything went fine so I'm not sure why you would have to remove the cams and chain

oh and it was just a rear coolant flange and temp guage... I never heard of any stripped bolts or anything else
