Question Should i cancel my order?

Hey guys, first post here. Been doing a lot of reading and I love the site.

Here is my situation...i ordered a Q5 in early September and was told i would get it at the end of the year. I've subsequently call the dealership and asked where we stand. They've informed me my Q5 is delayed until mid to late February 2011.

My question is two fold. First, should i wait for the truck or cancel the order citing over 90days no delivery and wait for the 2012's?

Second if i don't cancel the order, should i ask for a better price seeing that 6months will pass?

Let me know what you think on both fronts.

thanks

I'm interested in 2012 responses as well. I would order the 2011 Q5 late january, so i'm wondering also if waiting for the 2012 model would be wise.

My salesman told me that Audi usually lowers the interest rate in jan. as the sales are slow, but that would be for 2011 models.

I bought mine in April 2010 and got a 2011 in September-I was told that the delay was because they had just switched to 2011 production in april. If you're talking interest rates to buy rather than lease I would go with a bank-ie. Prime is 3%-I don't audi can touch that.

This is an interesting question.

I live through that kind of situation once back in 1994 when I wanted to order the brand new Mustang GT. I am not saying this is a similar case but here's what happened to me.

Back then Ford could not produce enough Mustang for the demand. In fact they could but allocation for Canada was just too low and with NAFTA and all it was better for them to allocate production to USA and Middle east (think Oil rich country). So, my dealer was making me wait and I found later that he was "re-directing" my order in his allocation (only few cars a month) to other customers that were willing to pay a premium (5 grand that is). Don't asked me how I found out, I wont tell but I did found out 3 years later. Also FORD was giving the dealer only few cars (Mustang that is) a month.

I ended up waiting until they told me the 1994 production was closed and had to place a new order for a 1995. That is when I flip the switch and went to an other dealer. Placed an new order and got the car within 2 months to the day they promised me at the order time.

We all know that Audi cannot produce the Q5 to the demand. Not saying again that the dealer is playing games but maybe a look at an other one might not be such a bad idea if you have the opportunity.

It looks to me that one other option is to get a dealer order (all dealers place order to stock their inventory) and try to see. This is what I did. The dealer had already orders in the system and I was lucky enough "buy" the last 2010 cars they had in their allocation. Was able to modify it to my options. Now got the VIN number and the car is supposed to arrive in 1.5 weeks from now.

I placed the order in early September (after labour day weekend) for a December delivery.

I find your delay suspicious and maybe there is a good explanation for it. But for going from August to February delivery is just too much for me.

Should you cancel?
Should you wait?

Difficult to answer.

How much do you want that particular car?
Can you afford to wait? Is your current car good for an other few months?

Bargaining? My experience is that if you order a model, your negotiating margin is at its lowest. Your best opportunity is to bargain on the lot. Dealer'S inventory is where your negotiating margin is the highest. Is the salesman hungry for sales? or you are just an other customer amongst many others?

All difficult to answer.

Marc

I have a few orders that are in the same situation. And there's nothing anyone can do. There are huge delays in Germany, mainly because of accessories. Audi is keeping up with production, the problem is Audi’s suppliers, and the main items that they’re short of are batteries, and also rims and tires.

You can cancel your order and get your deposit back. As far as renegotiating, it won’t happen. They can sell your Q5 to somebody else at this moment and sell it a higher price, simply because they can get it in less than three months.

Guys, i really appreciate the responses. Many, many tough choices. I love the truck, but I'm not stuck on getting it right now. My existing SUV is mine (ie. paid off) so i can wait. I just have an indescribable feeling of anticipation mixed with disappointment waiting so long.

Does anyone know when the earliest date to order a 2012 might be?

Retooling to the new model year normally happens in May, for delivery in July. So you should be placing an order for one sometime in March.

I'm in exactly the same position, placed my order in late August and my 90 days have just passed. I was promised a car for December and have asked for my VIN and so forth on several occasions. The dealer has not even had the courtesy to call and tell me my 90 days has passed and offered any explanation

I unfortunately need a car, wife and toddler - both making do with the TTC at the mo, but due to the recent plummet in temperatures, I think I cannot hold out for the car no matter how good it is (or how bad the dealer is).
What has annoyed me most is the empty promises, yes got a good deal on a car - but there is no car!

If I cite the 90 day rule will I have no problem getting my deposit back?

You can get your deposit back without any issues. If it helps, I have 3.2 Premium in Lava gray over black with Sline pkg, and it's ready for delivery.
I also have a white on cinammon 2.0t Premium + with sline, nav, pano and B&O for January delivery.

An attempt at renegotiating will get you nowhere, afretes is right. But going from December delivery to February is simply a game that the dealer played with you to keep you on the hook. All dealerships know exactly when they have Q5's coming in, there is no correspondence from Audi Corporate on production delays. Certain dealers are willing to take the chance to lose you by misrepresenting their delivery schedules at the time of signing. Then they call you three months later and tell you the truth.

THINK ABOUT IT!!! If the dealer you purchased from told you right from the get go that you would have to wait five months for your Q5, would you buy it from there? Even if you got a massive discount?

There are dealerships out there right now that are selling well into May delivery, others are in February STILL. Not telling you what to do.

Good luck gents.
