This is not true, delays can happen as it has with the Q5. Originally we were told three months wait, then due to back order accessories in Germany, delivery pushed to 4 to 5 months, and longer in some cases. But going from December delivery to February is simply a game that the dealer played with you to keep you on the hook. All dealerships know exactly when they have Q5's coming in, there is no correspondence from Audi Corporate on production delays. Certain dealers are willing to take the chance to lose you by misrepresenting their delivery schedules at the time of signing. Then they call you three months later and tell you the truth.

If you discuss this with your dealership they can get you a 2012, some may have no choice as they may be sold out of 2011 allocation. Last year, the 2.0 Q5's and A4's were the first new models to arrive to dealerships, this was in mid to late July. Assuming they arrive the same time this year, your reasoning may work out as planned. Either way, your dealer will be able to tell you.

Is it simply because you would like a newer model year for resale?
