Negotiating new Q7

Re: Negotiating new Q7
Anticipation was part of the fun. I had a ball with the following sequence: 1) get from your dealership the date of departure and hopefully the port; 2) if you have either/or then go to the PWL site (can't post URLs yet as I don't have 5 posts...) and search for Volkswagen Logistics (yes, Audi is part of the VW family who manage transport as well) to upload the pdf schedule (Ro-Ro Service at the time I was looking); 3) Find the 1 or 2 ships that sail to Halifax; 4) Get the ship's position and ETA from IAS website (mine travelled on "Blue Ridge Highway") - You lose the signal for a few days when it's lost at high sea; 5) when it reappears around Halifax you get to scout the webcams from the Nova Scotia Webcams website (cant post URLs...) and see the ship coming 'round (doesn't need to be realtime, you get time review timestamps from previous 24 hours at least)...
Problem is that once its on Canadian soil it can spend a variable amount of time at customs (especially if any mods?), and then transport to the dealership can be by trailer vs train, etc.
I got the call from the dealership 4 days after arrival to Halifax (dealership was in Quebec City, and this was September 1) which was 3-5 days early for date initially quoted by dealership.
Exciting times.
Enjoy!
(Props to cha777 for posting the backbone to this on AudiWorld Forums; however, I found that sites and specifics varied a bit for Canada in 2013)

Re: Negotiating new Q7
Well myauditracker reports the whereabouts of the ship on a quasi daily basis so I can pretty much figure out when it will arrive. At the speed the ship is going, I'd say it's going to be here before Xmas. After that, how long it takes to get to the dealership is a totally different story. According to them, it can take anywhere between 4 days and 3 weeks....

Re: Negotiating new Q7
Your dealer seems more tech savvy than mine... My boys and I had a good time following the "Blue Ridge Highway" across (impressive ship) and seeing this towering thing come around to the port in Halifax on the Webcam pictures.
That's going to be one fine toy under the Christmas tree...

Re: Negotiating new Q7
Nicolas, this is late for you but may help others to negotiate a fair price.
For my SQ5 I went to Consumer Reports and bought access to Bottom Line Price Report (something like $30; and the report is Canadian, not US). This provides 1) MSRP and 2) Dealer Invoice price (what the dealer pays for the car, before his incentives from the manufacturer) for the car, the options, and the freight. You also get Current Factory Incentive Programs that lets you know the details of current incentives that the dealer may decide to pass on to you or keep to himself. The report also gives you several pages of detailed standard and optional equipment, as well as recommendations for negotiating with the dealer.
With this in hand I emailed 4 dealers in Quebec and Ontario with the precise specs I wanted and let them know I would go with the lowest price taking into consideration delivery delay. The dealer I ended up going with was the only one to clearly state the incentives I knew were available from the CR price report. I then let him know I knew what his Dealer Invoice was and we negotiated around that. I was in no hurry and refused to discuss financing during negotiations for car purchase.
In my case I ended up paying $5,000 below MSRP (including a $1,000 Loyalty Cash/Factory to Consumer Rebate that expires 1/3/2014). I did not have access to some other rebates, for instance a rebate to A3 owners for $1,500 that expired in 9/3/2013. I know I left $1,000-1,500 above Dealer Invoice on the table, but the dealer did a good job and I was able to snag the exact same car I wanted within 5 weeks instead of waiting 3+ months as he found one about to board the ship for North America. This approach lets me know I didn't get snookered.

Well, as it stands, ship is now in Halifax. Anyone have an idea how long before it makes it to Moncton, NB which is 2.5 hours away?

Re: Negotiating new Q7
Well, after taking 7 days to cross the ocean, it is now (the graphic on myaudi tracker) just a little East of Halifax. For the last 4 days, LOL. I did my research on the marine traffic site and there is no ro ro ship anywhere in sight, not even one that has left Emden. The ship on the tracker site is called "Cargo Ship" (LOL again) and my ETA was pushed to end of January 2014.
Not complaining, but why would they post false info on their tracker site? I don't mind the wait, really, but from their crappy Audi Canada site and this latest thing, I think some people need some shaking up at Audi Canada and hire someone that can design a site and/or properly track shipment.
:P

Re: Negotiating new Q7
Same with mine. ETA was 12/21, then changed every day up to the 28th and now says 01/05. Oh well, I wasn't expecting it until February anyways as I only ordered it the end of November.

Re: Negotiating new Q7
Congrats! How are you liking it so far?
This whole tracker affair is a bust. It's unprofessional and the optics are just terrible. I ordered mine on the 23 of October so I wasn't expecting it until the end of January, to be honest, but I'm a believer of doing something right or not doing it at all. Apparently BMW has an excellent and very detailed tracker. If they can do it, I'm sure the likes of VW group can get their act together
