SQ5 Defective Steering
Audi had this PR problem with their accelerators. Anyone remember that?
I will hear back Monday what dealer says is the problem. But please let me know the names and tittle of Audi people you spoke to. I am not going to let this rest without Audi alerting people. I don't think I can let my wife drive this car with my child even when they fix it!

Dealers are aware...my dealer had an A4 do the same thing the day mine went. It is not just SQ5's. Plus part was updated mid production cycle in 2015, so as you can see it is 14 and 15 SQ5's.
Based on all the people who have posted, it definitely is due to the weather. No warm weather climate vehicles. Most Canadian, and most cold temps when it hits.
Agree that it is a matter of time only until someone is hurt. Apparently Audi could care less. If this catches you when you are not aware of the issue, and you are in traffic, it is a recipe for an accident.
As mentioned prior, for any Canadian owners with this issue, please contact Darryl Malone at Transport Canada via email darryl.malone@tc.gc.ca. He is looking to hear from any other Cdn owners as they are now investigating and this will be the main reason any recall ever gets done.

Re: Dangerous steering failure on new 2014 SQ5
So far this only happened to the SQ5 owners correct? No 2.0T q5 owners reported this problem? Are the steering assembly different between the 2.0t vs 3.0t? So if I order a 2016 sq5 it should have the new steering assembly? What change did they make between the old vs new steering assembly?
It seems like everyone in this thread having the problem are 2014-15 sq5 owners.

Re: Dangerous steering failure on new 2014 SQ5
Audi has now sent all a recall on all 2014 and 2015 SQ5's, in Canada , saying not much except there is a recall , and that the steering failure only occurs under extreme cold weather conditions.
Any feed back?

Re: Dangerous steering failure on new 2014 SQ5
This is my second failure event loosing steering on my 2014 SQ5. Two years ago I posted the 1st event. The dealer ordered new Rack and Pinion from Germany which fixed it....temporarily. Here two years later now January 2016, this 2nd event I was not driving. Upon starting the car the display lit up red "do not drive steering failure". The Audi folks had flatbed truck come. At this moment a 2nd new rack and pinion is coming from Germany. In 2015 I rcv'd the recall notice and had Audi do the update firmware fix. Obviously my 1st replaced R&P plus the firmware fix did not eliminate this dangerous failure from re-occurring yet again.

Re: Dangerous steering failure on new 2014 SQ5
The 3rd rack and pinion is working. The new R&P assy part number just in from Germany ends with a different revision 8R1-423-055-BG. The 1st replacement in Jan 2014 was same number as this new one but was a rev -AJ. I was told the motor on R&P is stronger now and tighter tolerances. I have been back on the road again for a few days no issues steering... however I have confirmed that very cold temps are required to create failures. The last few days we have warmed up in MN. Hopefully fixed for good and does not return next Jan.
