Yet another close call..this time an A1. Bravo Audi.
==================================>
Sorry to hear about your steering! I am having similar problems with my 2014 audi a1- the steering became heavy and locked whilst trying to turn a corner at about 40mph just missing a family car coming in the opposite direction which could have been potentially fatal. This caused a collision with the kerb and therefore impact damage to the suspension and ABS. Just looking to see if there are any similar incidents?
==================================>
Very sorry to hear your situation! Thankfully no one was hurt. That is the good news. Bad news is Audi could care less. They have no idea what the definition of preventative is...they will continue to wait until a few firey crashes I guess. Why this is not recalled at this time makes little sense. But alas, the mighty dollar and non-tarnished brand remain goal #1,2 and 3.

Thanks for posting! There has to be others. Many near misses of collisions due to this steering issue. Again, they changed out the steering in the 2015 SQ5, so they know something...lawyers will like that part....

chalk 1 more for the steering issue out here in the Rockies. I was not as fortunate as others. Took out my front end as could not avoid a parked car. The wheel does turn as others say, but barely. I remember when it happened it startles the #%@ out of you and I did not react in time. like others I checked for recall or bulletins but nothing. My dealer shrugged it off as well. or at least was not overly surprised. sounded like they had seen this on other models as well. Hope it gets fixed. Soon.

For any Canadian owners with this issue, please contact Darryl Malone at Transport Canada via email darryl.malone(AT)tc.gc.ca. He is looking to hear from any other Cdn owners as they are now investigating.

Mine just did the same thing thursday morning... Started the car with the remote starter for 15 minutes...
My work is about 5 km from my house... In the parking lit the red wheel light came on in the dash and the steering wheel became stiff...

The truck is in direction of the dealer on a flatbed.
I am not too worried about that since I saw that thread and they changed it under warranty. Just sad that a brand new vehicles of the range of price did that. But its mechanical.

Information of the truck and situation

================================

Audi called me, They will change the Rack and Pinion.

what you guys think ?

Yes many people on other forums continue to report and pm me. Audi is aware by now but not sure why there is not a TSB or recall. It certainly could lead to a bad outcome while driving.

It just happened to me this morning. Steering just stopped functionning. The dealer told me that I was the second one this morning and that all 2014 SQ5's had that problem. They are ordering the parts to repair.

Lucky, I had just exited the highway.

Hi guys, new on the forum. I subscribed to this forum just to reply to this thread.

I was searching for audi sq5 steering failure...got here...

Why ? Well just like others our steering failed today. Started the car, warmed up for couple of minutes, made 3 turns (90 degrees or more) and got the warning. Reading your stories, I now totally understand the feeling experienced at the wheel. It is pretty scary !

My wife took the car today with our little baby. I feel so lucky it happened to me when I was alone in the car. They're supposed to call me back for towing and stuff....it's friday so only on Monday it'll be checked out I suppose...

2015 SQ5, delivered July 2014 (old steering version I suppose)
