2.0t Power Surge

2.0t Power Surge
In general I'm pretty happy with the 2.0 but there is one thing I don't like. Coming out of a slow corner and giving it some gas, it goes from almost no power to a whole bunch almost instantaneously. Very disconcerting. There doesn't seem to be any way to feed it in gradually on a consistant basis. Is this normal with these things

I've had turbo's before but nothing this extreme and at such low rpm. Makes it almost impossible to feed in power smoothly out of a corner. Sure gets a reaction from passengers when it takes a great lunge in the middle of a corner. It's the one thing my wife really doesn't like about driving this thing.

Re: 2.0t Power Surge
I usually get all my braking out of the way before the corner, then keep a light positive throttle through... gives me a smooth exit every time.
If you treat the gas pedal like an on/off button it is going to be deliver a not so nice ride, it is all about modulation.
If you treat the gas pedal like an on/off button it is going to be deliver a not so nice ride, it is all about modulation.

Also an intake might give you an easier spool but that is negligible when compared to the solution above.

Re: 2.0t Power Surge
When you first start driving this vehicle and you go to accelerate out of a corner and the turbo lag will cause the power to not kick in right away, so naturally you think "hey, wtf is going on here..." and put your foot into it a little more to coax out some power. Then when it comes you get a huge surge of power and it throws you off a bit.
If you can keep the positive throttle on the corner it will stay spooled and you get a responsive pull the second you touch the throttle as you exit. I am not saying you should fly through every corner like a wild man, just get your braking done before the corner and softly accelerate into it instead.
Once you get used to it, it just becomes second nature, honestly the Q5 delivers a really smooth ride once you learn how to manage the power delivery.
