2.0t Power Surge
In general I'm pretty happy with the 2.0 but there is one thing I don't like. Coming out of a slow corner and giving it some gas, it goes from almost no power to a whole bunch almost instantaneously. Very disconcerting. There doesn't seem to be any way to feed it in gradually on a consistant basis. Is this normal with these things

Re: 2.0t Power Surge
yes its normal, that is just the turbo lag, all turbos have that to some degree

Re: 2.0t Power Surge
I usually get all my braking out of the way before the corner, then keep a light positive throttle through... gives me a smooth exit every time.
If you treat the gas pedal like an on/off button it is going to be deliver a not so nice ride, it is all about modulation. |

Modulation is the thing. Most of the time it is not a big deal, just coming out of very low speed corners. Give it a little throttle, nothing, give it a bit more, boom.
When you first start driving this vehicle and you go to accelerate out of a corner and the turbo lag will cause the power to not kick in right away, so naturally you think "hey, wtf is going on here..." and put your foot into it a little more to coax out some power. Then when it comes you get a huge surge of power and it throws you off a bit. If you can keep the positive throttle on the corner it will stay spooled and you get a responsive pull the second you touch the throttle as you exit. I am not saying you should fly through every corner like a wild man, just get your braking done before the corner and softly accelerate into it instead. Once you get used to it, it just becomes second nature, honestly the Q5 delivers a really smooth ride once you learn how to manage the power delivery. |
Re: 2.0t Power Surge
I always get my braking done before the corner but I don't always want to carry power all the way through it. Oh well, it is what it is I guess.
