Hi Sean. Sorry to bug you again but what sort of real-world fuel consumption are you getting from your Allroad?

Thanks in advance - Richard

No problem. We haven't really had it long enough to tell, but on the hwy coming up here in North Dakota at 130k/hr it was reading 22m/us gallon....so? 25mpg our gallon. It's a beautiful car, but with the AWD etc. it's heavy. If mpg is an issue for you then this is not the car for you. Transport Canada rates it at 20 city/ 29 hwy, and I think you'd be lucky to get that, unless you wanted to drive so slow as to tick everybody off.

So has anyone imported an A5? I've been lookign around, and honestly not sure its even worth it. Prices seem pretty close to the same , all things considered (although still overpriced in both countries).

The only cars that maybe worth importing are cars in the $70k price range and over. Your savings on an A5 may not be worth your while, not to mention how much less that car will be worth when it's time to sell it.
Do you really think the A5 is overpriced in NA? You should price one out in Germany! Way more money.
The base price for an A5 is $44,100, it is 45,000 euros in Germany for a similarly equipped car, and they're made locally!!!

Just looking into this myself. I just started looking into this this morning so please point out any mistakes/glaring omissions lol. If I did go the import route, can anyone on this board recommend a dealer accessable from Toronto?

Regarding pricing and total cost of importing, this is what I have come up with using the configurator on both the US and CA sites.

Options are listed differently between US and CA. The "prestige" package in the US includes what we call our "technology" package. These Both are the A5 with S trim, nav, upgraded stereo and the tech package.

A5 2.0
CA Pricing 58,250 + tax of $7572 total $65822
US Pricing - $48,776 + $6340 (GST and PST) + $3170 (duty of 6.1% as it's manufactured in Germany) Total = $58285

Difference of $7,536 + $500 for miscellaneous costs/fees crossing the border.

A5 3.2
CA Pricing $63,900 + tax of 8307 total $72207
US Pricing $52075+6769+3384=$62,228

Difference of $9,979 + $500 for miscellaneous costs/fees crossing the border.

Update on this. I ended up doing a private deal with somebody from Miami. More risks involved this way doing it privately but more reward also. Picked up my 08 S5 with about 35,000 kms on it for $41,000 US. All said and done, I got the car I wanted in the exact spec I was after form someone who you could tell looked after it really well. After all taxes/fees/duties it ended up being around $50k CA. Most S5's in that range to buy here in Ontario are around $60 plus tax for a total hovering around $68k CA. So with flight, hotels, gas included I saved somewhere between $15-20K CA I figure and a sweet road trip home in my spotless new S5
