Hey Everyone,

New member here but not new to cars. I currently own a 2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS that I've swapped a 2001 JDM STI 2.0L turbo, 6spd and brembo brakes (among other things) into.

What Im learning now is that once you've had your hands on every bolt in a car, even if you're careful in putting it back together, its not the most reliable car. The list is getting longer of things that go wrong and as of Sunday, its currently undrivable with what I think is a broken rear differential.

So, basically, since I love doing summer road trips and driving out to the mountains during winter, I've been thinking about picking up a cheap Audi S4. They're some of the first generation ones around going for about $10k around here. They seem to be a pretty solid deal for 250hp and AWD, mixed with a bit of luxury for the girlfriend during road trips.

Now, im going to go look at an S4 soon and was wondering if you guys can give me some advice on what to look for. For instance, I know that in Subaru's you check the head gasket and its pretty easy to tell if the clutch is going. What are some things that I should be aware of for the 2000/1 S4's?

Also, Im going to try to stay away from modifications for as long as possible. Im getting my fill with the STi swap but is a turbo-back exhaust and tune a fairly common first modification? What does that net you?

Thanks a lot and I really appreciate the help!

Welcome to the forum.. Check the S/RS link on the forum and there you will find plenty of comments past and present regarding the B5 S4 you are considering. This is a twin turbo car and since you already know about turbos you have a leg up on most on what to look for. Do you homework and good luck. When you get the car stay in touch and post up some pics.
