Math isn't my best subject by any means , however 6 hours at $99 is $594. Plus the $600 in parts? = $1194 + taxes? How do you figure $960ish?

I would suggest buying the Continental Kit. Its great quality and costs about $300.
There is a guys selling a single brand new OEM stuff for the job on vwvortex and asking $180us. You could probablt get him at $150.

I looked up a DIY from Audiworld.com by a guy named BlueTT and he created at 47-page tutorial on how to do the job. I don't think even a novice would be able to do it, especially the part where you have to remove engine mounts and use an engine hoist to support the engine, and the part where you have to line up the cam/gears/pistons at TDC (top dead centre). looks scary!
