Cool Help with 2012 S4 purchase

Sold my car and now looking for an S4 base with NAV, SD, possibly Nappa and 19".

Dealer has an Brilliant Black S4 available with all the options I want, However I'm undecided about the colour.

I'm worried about the swirls you can get with Black. as it is very glossy (Love the look though and I tend to wash the car every week at a hand wash carwash)

The other option would be to order an Ibis white which would take 3 months to arrive. Only other colour I would consider would be Monsoon Grey and I haven't seen one yet. Both colours would have to be ordered though.

The dealer will rent me a VW for $500/month which means it would cost me an extra $1500+ as they seem to think the car will take 3 months to arrive.

I guess I could upgrade to Premium and see if there is an Ibis white one with the options out there.

A bonus could be that the finance rates change for the better in 3 months so might cover the rental fee.

Any thoughts on this?

yeah...get a used one. Why pay $55,000+tax when you can get a used one for about $10,000 less?

I played golf with a guy who had a 2011 R8 5.2 spyder. He paid $155,000 for it. It had 4,000 km on it.

First owner paid $205,000 for it. That first owner paid $12.50 per kilometre lol.

With the B8 S4, the 2011 models have the upgraded tranny (if you want DSG) with launch control etc...and those with NAV have the full nav, not the neutered NAV the 2012's have. You also have a few colours available in 11 that aren't available anymore (Sprint Blue being one).

I'd totally buy a used 2011 if I were getting a B8. I'd avoid the 2010 cars like the plague though...too many with the old **** waterpump (that may or may not have blown/been replaced yet) as well as a leaky diffs, DSG problems, no launch control etc.

Here's a 2011 in Meteor Grey

Don't be scared of the asking price. They know they'll never get that....but they have to ask something.

I don't think that dealer will go anywhere near $52K on that. they might drop it 4% but that's it. They had a $64k used 2010 S4 in the showroom about 4 months ago and would only drop it 4%.

The 2 year extended warranty is always a bonus though.

well let's think

2012 base MSRP is $53,000, not $52,000. You also need to add freight/PDI/delivery/admin so that's a quick $2500. You also need to add $1000 for leather seats and $2500 for NAV and $1000 for the 19" wheels you asked for, and if you want it $1500 for DSG. Guess what? That's $61,500+tax. They might cut 4% or $2500 from that for you, so $59,000 + tax. You're also going to 'get' to wait 3 months for it...and pay $1500 for that rental so really it's $60,500+tax (or $59,000+tax if no DSG)...and 3 months of explaining why you drive a 2.5L 5 cylinder city golf with roll up windows and no A/C.

The other car is ultra loaded, has DSG/carbon fibre/B&O and all the niceties like the memory seats and the homelink and advanced key...not to mention a 2 year Audi warranty, of which you'll get 1.5 yrs, which is worth about $2000 alone if you were to add one to the 2012 car when the 4yr/80k runs out. If they cut 4% off that ask price, you're at $58,500+tax, and driving it tomorrow. You'll lose a bit on the 2011 vs 2012 at resale...but you'll gain a bit more back for having DSG and a premium.

Funny how that worked out isn't it?

I understand what you are saying, and there is no doudt that you save on buying used. I just couldn't see how that particular car was going to be $10,000 less than the one I had spec'ed out.

I did look for a used car however I really wanted a Manual, so it limited my options on used.

I've ended up getting one from stock with the options I wanted. Had to pay $750 for Monsoon, however still cheaper than driving that 2.5L golf city for 3 months.

Thanks for the info though.
