S4, S6 or Allroad ???
s6 avant ftw.
The first audi i owned was an a4. im 6'3" and it was tight for me, especially with people in the back. then i started looking at getting a wagon, and started looking at the s4. looks great, but if you want to go a trip with anyone but a 10 year old, it would be terrible for the people in the back. so i started looking at the s6. i ended up getting one with a mtm chip and exhaust, stoptech brakes and bilstein pss9 suspension, which is ride height adjustable. this car rocks. ive been on two 18 hour trips with all guys and they love how comfortable the back is. i put a rack on top to hold our skis and a box for some gear, the back is big enough to fit alot of gear.
i have two dogs i put back there, a shepard cross husky and a golden retriever, they have alot of room.
i didnt really look at allroads due to the air suspension. they have had alot of issues, but people have had no issues at all. im not a fan of the two tone colors and plastic. the interior is no where near as nice as the s6, or the s4. the turbos kind of scared me also. i know you can upgrade and make it run with 500hp, but that is another 10k$. plus if you do that, i doubt the air ride suspension will hold out.
and yes the rs6 is one sick car, are you prepared to do a timing belt every 50k? and pulling the motor every time you do it? sending it to the dealer would cost you a small fortune.
the only thing the s4 has that the s6 does not is a manual tranny. performance doesnt drop all that much with an s6.
s6 ftw.
here are some older pics of mine.
some pics with new rims..what do you think?

I am super late on this one, but I have come to expose the virtue of the 2.7T. I have a B5S4, and it is a bit tight for a family, though not impossible; however, the 2.7 Allroads on the other hand...spacious, attractive, and if you are willing to invest in some mods...now we are talking a serious RS6 killer.
I went for a rip in a 2.7t that was tuned to about 550hp...I have never been pinned back in my seat so hard...EVER! Mind you, you would need a manual to handle that kind of power...but there are several to be had in the US. Plus, despite what everyone else here has said...turbos are a lot of fun. I think Porsche likes to use them.
My only knock against the Allroad (if you get the suspension fixed) is that the interior is a bit old looking. I could see that being a deal breaker for a wife...but since you don't share your toys, it may not matter. So...for around the price of an RS6 you could have a fully built, 400-600hp Allroad with a killer suspension. I would rather have that to a sedan any day.
Then again, that is my 2 cents.

stage 3 allroad would be great...but an RS6 killer? Don't forget...you're talking about an RS6 turbo'd 4.2 V8 vs. an ??? turbo'd 2.7T. K04? Rs6 turbos?(ironically)
There's no replacement for displacement!
An RS6 with just a tune will run 11s. Without blinking it will trap an easy 120mph. It will take a very serious build to get an allroad into that type of performance. Don't forget the allroad weighs about 600lbs more than the RS6 turbo'd S4 you rode in.
That's a nice S6, and I love the rims and rubber, nothing like elastic bands over aluminum.
I ran into another situation last night that I hadn't considered, I was loading my hunting gear, ie. long gun cases, and though; that's something that wouldn't fit in a trunk very well.
