New here so hello everyone!
Love the car and just don't want to pick a chip that will give me extra juice at some point in the band but then loose power elsewhere. I am leaning towards APR but find them conservative compared to unitronics or Vast Perf. I guess Im looking for an
overall "steady" power curve with no losses anywhere when compared to stock.

well after learning how to navigate this place I found what I was looking for! JHM seems to
be the answer but I hope just gutting my fronts will meet the criteria for their chip...I'll give them a call this week.

I was going to direct you to JHM but I wanted to see what others recommended. I know that the JHM Tune is very specific and will require other mods to be done to take full advantage of the tune. I really depends on what you are looking for and what you want the end result to be. I have the GIAC tune from Pfaff and am very happy with it, but I also have the Stassis exhaust in combination.

well since I have my wife looking over my shoulder for every $ I spend on this beauty...Im going to have to keep it under 1k for mods....so the chip should run me 500 and Im sure I can do my own gutting after reading more on this forum....hopefully JHM will say thats enough to work with their chip if not I'll wait. I remember when I had my bike back in the day...everyone was like oh put this sprocket on and put this pipe on, ya you got some nice punch out of the hole but lost top end....don't want this for my car

I put the Giac in my 2006 s4 Avant, and I love it. Not a huge difference on gas consumption, and it punches things up nicely on the track. Put in Stratmosphere Hyperflow air intake at the same time.

Getting a 2.5" catback is step two.

The stock catback will be ok, but not good. Get a 2.5" catback with a crossover.

a) you'll get more out of the other two mods (piggies and tune)
b) it'll sound badass
c) it'll be a good upgrade that future mods will take further advantage of

Magnaflow has one for like $700. Fast Intentions is about $1500. Both are 2.5"...have an x-pipe crossover...and will do nicely. You can also find a used catback. Again...DEFINITELY get 2.5...and try hard to get an x-pipe setup (vs. no crossover, or an h-pipe)

what does the stratmosphere part actually do?

All the research I've seen shows it adds zero performance. The company kept posting vague info about it saying it increases MAF g/sec readings (i.e. increases air flow to the engine) but unfortunately it allows hot air in due to the design (open in spots to the engine bay and the auxillary radiator behind passenger side foglight). More flow doesn't mean more performance if it's oxygen starved piping hot air. Further, you lose the pressurized stock airbox (which is excellent). Finally the influx of hot air may actually hurt performance.

No offense...just wanted to post what I thought was now well known info for the 4.2 S4s.

hi guys! Well step one, step 2 and step 3 are all ordered! Maybe I did it out of sequence but everything will arrive at around the same time. Jhm 93 chip, FI cat back x-over (14 res)...necked down to meet oem dp's. Gutted oem dp's. Now the only thing I wish I did different was aftermarket Dp's because of the 2.5 to 2.25 dia drop in the connection of the FI & oem dp's.
Not sure how much loss there is at that point and does it make the catback change useless. I have heard that aftermarket dp's are prone to failing emmisions but who knows this could just be false data.
Well I owe it all to my buddy Art! We were like a couple of kids in a candy shop pushing eachother to the next mod..lol
