Permanently turn ESP off?

Re: Permanently turn ESP off?
And yes its always on, when the icon shows when you turn it off, it will not effect your driving at all.
And as far as ESP working well, it helped me 2 nights ago, I live in Anchorage Alaska and it was snowing, obviously a very rare occasion but anyways... i was pulling into my dormitory parking lot and while taking the turn my bad end flew out, when i was only going 10 mph, but about 90 degrees into the turn i felt the ESP turn on and my back end stop slipping almost immediately and i kept driving, when i looked in my mirror i realize that my back end was literally touching 1 of the parked cars, but left no damage on either vehicle... that saved me and the other of the Ford Fusion (ew) quite a bit of money, it doesn't always help as far as saving lives, it helps save that GREEN STUFF

I do agree not all ESP are build equally.
I really doubt the design, composition, logic and function of an ESP for A4 resembles the one on A8.
Every model, every year, every tire has different performance impact, I believe.
(just my 2c)

On most Audi's', If the yellow light of the ESP bothers you, press an hold the ESP button until the light comes off. (Abs still works but the light comes off).

Re: Permanently turn ESP off?
For my A6 2001, if I press and hold ESP for 10 seconde, the ESP light goes off and I can no longuer activate or desactivate the ESP. It stay activate. Need to turn off the car to be able to disable the ESP.
Even if i small press the ESP to disable it, it come in function in some situation so I cannot really and totaly disable it. The way to prove that: I goes on a parking lot full of ice, try to do donut with the ESP light On in the dash and it didn't permit me to turn in circle and do my donut!
ABS stay on regardless of the ESP light or switch. That's Ok
If someone have a way to totally disable ESP, give it please...
Yes it's a must to have ESP very often (highway). It's a really secure method to keep the car safe (lane change, obstacle evitment). ESP should/must be on every new car. Even if your a good driver, you don't have 4 brake pedal. But sometime, I want to play with my car.

Re: Permanently turn ESP off?
I now turn it off almost all the time (2010 A5), especially in winter. For highway driving I sometimes leave it on.
If it does something that I don't notice when it's on that's great. When I do notice it it's very severe and damn annoying.

Re: Permanently turn ESP off?
I have a 2000 Audi TT Quattro. it does not have the ESP button on the dash nor the haness for one to be installed. It was one of the ones recalled to have the esp put on to it. I would like to know if there is a way I could turn ther esp on and off. And for the record I personally believe that ESP has a time and place, like daily driving to work, but should be able to turn it off for when yoiu want to have a little fun.

Not a fan of ESP but not much effort is required to press the button. On my wish list is separating the stiffer suspension setting and engine performance enhancements on sport mode.

Re: Permanently turn ESP off?
OP I have never heard of anyone getting that to work. Would be nice for guys like you and cheeba to be able to have the button's function reversed...i.e. it's default off, but you push it to turn it on
I find myself turning mine off when it's dry, because the RS4 spins the wheels on the 1-2 and 2-3 and sometimes 3-4 (not normal driving...but when you're really accelerating WOT), causing ESP to come in and basically kill your momentum. Feels like a slipping clutch for a moment then you're back to full power.
