Default Discount from the dealership?

Hello fellow calgarians! New to the forum here. I will be trading in my 2009 Mercedes c300 for new 2013 a5/s5 once the shipments arrive and they look gorgeous. Quick question, I've never bought a car from dealership before but can you get a deal from them? Such as discount on the car or throw in something a least? Thanks!

Also I know this is not a a5/s5 forum but which one would you guys get? it's only 14,000 more. Sell me on the car!

Everything is negotiable but it all really depends on supply & demand - how keen you are to buy i.e. will you walk if the discount isn't what you want, and how keen the dealer is to sell i.e. do they have someone else in the pipeline who they know will pay a little more.

Best thing is to ask and decide based upon the answer you get back - good luck

If you are not interested in having to haggle you might want to join the Automotive Protection Agency and get a quote for A5 and S5.

While I do not believe that there are dealers in Calgary it will provide you with valuable negotiation leverage by knowing what other dealers (in Van, Ottawa and Toronto) will sell the car(s) for.

This is what the APA says about provinces they are not covering (Alberta)

We will provide you with information on the vehicles you are considering so you can better negotiate with a dealer in your area. Our pricing reports tell you what the dealer paid for the car and how much profit (mark-up over invoice) the dealer is likely to accept. We also itemize current available incentives from the manufacturer for cash purchase, a financed purchase, and for lease deals.

Certainly, you will have more information than the average consumer entering a dealer showroom. If there is more than one dealer for a particular brand in your immediate area, you can attempt to play them off against each other for the best price on the new car and the best offer for your trade-in. Keep in mind, APA staff are available by phone or email (during office hours) to provide advice on all aspects of the negotiation including the trade-in and monthly finance and lease payments.

For vehicles in the range of $30,000 and higher, the APA can recommend a reliable full service broker has been vetted by APA and can in most cases match APA’s recommended prices. Contact APA Toronto for a referral and more details.
