Hi folks,my problem stems from water soaking the carpet in the rear passenger compartment.Now the indicators (except the two front ones)are on permanently solid(not flashing)and i have now had to disconnect the battery to avoid it being flattened.I have read that there is a module underneath the passenger seat that can get wet in extreme cases and cause problems,anyone else had this problem and if so how did you cure it.I have tried to take out the seat but can't find out how to remove it,any ideas would be much appreciated.......Garry

1. Provide a description of your model - North American or Euro
2. Provide a complete autoscan of the installed controllers
3. Using some water, hose the vehicle from the roof down and with another person, look for the leak while some interior panels are removed
4. Inspect the area where the battery resides, there are 2 drains below the battery tray and brake booster - clean them out.
5. Inspect the cabin filter and tray for a proper seal
6. If there's a sunroof, clean the 4 drains at each corner

Indicators, what indicators? Signal lamps?

50 MA is a good target value but the doors must be open and latched, hood open and latched, trunk open and latched. Set the alarm and wait 10 minutes. Note the value. Preferred is an amp clamp on the battery cable without opening any circuits. Remove fuses one at a time and note any differences.

Water contamination will cause headaches within the serial or CAN data lines.
Open the connections at suspect areas, all connections must be clean and dry.

 

Most likely came through your cabin filter located on the passenger side of the car when you open your hood. I had this happen to me as the drain plug under the battery got clogged and water made its way up and through the filter.

under the carpet is your TCM (transmission control module). IF you want to save it, DO Not turn on your car until it is dried completely, or you will damage your TCM. I had to buy a used TCM for my audi a6 2003 for a decent price 700 dollars at the time. But new ones go for around up to $2000. Its a easy swap, just lift carpet and theres a little box with the TCM.

i have the same issue -- apparently water got in trough the sunroof drain. they say it`s blocked and the water coudn`t drain so it went into the front passenger (feet level). It damaged my TCM/TCU - i can`t see the letters and the car barely moves. I`ll try to take it out and dry it. For some guys it worked. In the US there was a lawsuit against this issue as it seemed to be a very common problem for all models 99 to 2005... Unfortunately there is not much we can do in Canada except maybe to start our own lawsuit which i inted to do... I am very dissapointed that a problem like that can occur and that the customer is responsible for the costs...
