I am on my second C5 A6 4.2, so you know my answer. Just cant beat the widebody, and the option to swap in RS6 body parts.
Just be prepared for the transmission to die on you, if it hasnt been previously replaced. I have gone through two of the tiptronics (one per car), and am now running a 6speed manual after conversion.

+1 on the transmission problems... Reverse drum blew. "while im in there" it also needs $400 rear main seal, torque converter, and steering rack. Its been so long I almost forgot how boring Japanese cars are. Maybe worth a second look (sigh).
