Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
That's why audi comes up with this crankcase breather and update programming. Most of the engine is not worn. It's just that the oil separator causing excessive blow-by.

It could be a number of things contributing to it. Maybe a internal design flaw that allows seepage or build up? Regardless its probably the most common complaint from what I've researched.
I'm sure most are ok. The ones that aren't are probably neglected, abused or serviced at long intervals.
The ones I've checked out always seemed to be low on oil (around the add mark).

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
What I find interesting is Audi sells a boat load of vehicles with the 2.0T not everyone is having oil burning issues. My question is what is the difference? Yes I like to "drive" my A4, the only thing I do, other than following the Audi prescribed maintenance, is I change my oil every 5K without exception. I have never had to add oil in between changes. It would be interesting to see if this issue arises more in certain model years, my two 2.0T's were an '08 and a '12. Thoughts?

Excessive oil consumption of Cadillac 3.6 VVT is also supposedly contributing to failures of timing chains (yes, 3 chains!). 1 litre per 3000 kms is normal.

I think if you ask enough people is that everyone with the 2.0T in certain year ranges are using oil. You don't hear about it because AUDI has a campaign in place where their dealers tell all of their customers that this is normal consumption and that it states that in the owners manual. Most consumers are dumb founded and do not know what to do when told that by the dealer.
I would guess the bigger issue is when oil consumption is in and around what the manual says is exceptable and the dealership makes a judgement call, whether directed by Audi or made by themselves, that becomes the true test of customer service.

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
I had an opportunity to speak with my buddy about his experience with his '09 A4 that was burning a liter per 1000kms. Turns out he was told by the dealer it is a known issue with his model year and they replaced his engine with out hassle. Dealers come in all shapes, sizes and attitudes and I am impressed with how they dealt with him on this issue and it's the reason I have dealt with this dealer for the past decade and will continue to do so in the future, they look after their customers. I know not all dealerships are the same and I am sure there are many frustrated owners out there that aren't having the same positive experience.

Re: Pistons/Rings Replaced = Still Burning Oil Help
Well when starting, I was burning about 1L/1000Km, I went and complained like a madman. They finally made some fixes, PCV valve among other things, and now I'm at about 0.25L/2000KM and still going. Nagging is the key here.
